Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of December (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have December ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in December, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Ok, great. Thank You!
No, it does not have to be on file anywhere at this time. If something happens, you will be able to fax a copy to the hospital and/or RTC.
Hi all, my son is leaving early Tuesday morning for GL and I am trying to tie up a few loose ends. I have a question regarding the MPOA for anyone who has done this. I downloaded the form and in the process of filling it out, there is a part at the end that says where it is filed, original copy, medical institution, etc., my question is do we need to file it at a hospital or give a copy to the recruiter? Any advice would be great.
Look like my son will be a day behind most on here. He goes the 12th to MEPS and 13th to GL from Des Moines. Anyone else in the same position? I cry everytime I get on here and follow everyones comments. Someone stated it best yesterday that most people don't understand that this isn't like going to college. Kids can call and go home from college. Our kids are totally out of reach to us for 8 weeks. Hope I can handle it. I am so proud of him.
It looks like many of us have kids leaving on December 11/12...looking forward to getting to know all of you through this time.
I think the difference between saying goodbye to a kid leaving for college and one leaving for BC is that college kids come back in a few weeks and are still kids. Ours come back in months/years as Men and Women, Drastically different.
My son left for PHX yesterday, just sworn in this morning (he TM the photo) and flies to Great Lakes this afternoon. His girlfriend & I met him for the afternoon & dinner (his choice Cheesecake Factory with chocolate & peanut butter cheesecake for dessert). His step sister also joined & we all had a very nice dinner! He is well prepared & ready to get on with the next phase of his life. While it seems like it was only yesterday he was a young child (as I look at his kindergarden graduation photo in my office) - he has matured into a fine young man. His time @ Great Lakes will go fast! GL won't be all fun & games - but he's done several challenging extended bicycle tours (without mom) & I know he will get through it all.
I do plan to send cards/letters from different "groups" - gonna stop by Barber shop, church, people he worked with... maybe they might not send a card individually - but with mom's encouragement...
I guess it's time for "us" to transfer over to another board.
Lita and Alison, I'm also moving over to Boot Camp for Moms group.... and I do feel a little better emotionally, today. Only have cried once since waking up so that's an improvement! I love the idea of counting Friday's instead of every day. I'm sure that will help. Hugs to all of you moms out there just trying to cope with this. Our boys are making us proud!!!
