Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of December (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have December ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in December, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Do they not need to bring their immunization records?
My son leaves 2 hours to the recruiters office. He's excited/nervous. He was only told to bring id., ss card, bank info. and $.
My son leaves for BC on Thursday, Dec. 6th from Houston. Any others??
There is also a difference between placing your son or daughter's cell phone on Military Hold or Military Suspension. With the Military Hold, your carrier can go out to the DOD Website and locate your child and simply place the phone number on Milirary Hold and you never need to provide the carrier with a copy of their orders, no phone charges for that number on your bill and the entire time the phone is on Military Hold, that time counts toward the two-year obligation of the contract. With the Military Suspension, the carrier requires a copy of their orders and while the phone is on Military Suspension, you continue to pay around $10 per month for the phone, as well as while the phone is on Military Suspension that time does not count toward the two-year obligation. My son's phone is set to go on Military Hold commencing at 0001 on 12/6.
My son departs for the hotel tomorrow (12/4) and I will meet him at MEPS on 12/5 for final swearing in and off to the airport (hurry up and wait kind of a day, per norm). We celebrated Christmas on 11/25 just we normally would have, going away party was on 12/1, which was a blast! I have provided him with all kinds of information from the Navy Deppers website - very interesting reading. I wished I would have had information prior to my departure for Navy bootcamp all those years ago! I think he is all set to go and I am staying the course and being strong.
Thanks KLO-navymom. He is my only son, and his dad and I divorced when he was very young, so we are extremely close. I am super excited for him, but I'm not sure how I'm going to make it through this. We had family in this past weekend and celebrated Christmas early, that was really nice. I'm on vacation starting this Thursday so that he and I can spend some time together before he leaves...and finish up getting last minute stuff done. It's going to be a long week....This morning I woke up at 2am and tossed and turned for a few hours before falling back to sleep....I can't believe my baby is leaving. I keep trying to tell myself for now that it's only 8 weeks, I can see him after that.
Kanesmom and momof4 my son leaves on 12.12.12 also and then heads to San Antonio for A school. We were watching a show last night (about being in the Navy) and I became teary eyed. But still trying to stay strong for him. We had a small gathering yesterday for him and then next weekend his sister who is out of state is coming home to surprise him and see him one last time before he leaves. Can't wait! This group is a great place to visit and know that I am not a lone.
Ok so my son left yesterday for MEPS and flies out today sometime for Great Lakes. We did the last dinner thing like most had suggested and I was great up until I had to say farewell. I tried my best to be strong, but I broke into tears. He was the first on to leave the house. I kept trying to remember all the things he needed before he left. I thank god that I am on vacation this week to try to put myself back together again.
Had an open house yesterday for my daughter, so her friends and ours could drop by to say farewell. It was really nice. Today we spent a really nice day with her window shopping at the mall, a bit of early Christmas. I took off work tomorrow so I could spend a whole day with her, mother-daughter time!
