Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of December (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have December ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in December, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

I just read that the "kid box" that comes back with their cloths and stuff, our kids are paying for this out of thier first paycheck? Does anyone know if this is correct? If so then the best thing is for them to take only the cloths on their back and cell phone.

Loved the NAVY tree idea! They have all those little ornaments so cheap at Walmart right now. We are throwing him a little "BON VOYAGE" party on Sat with family and some close friends. I thought about giving everyone who comes a candle (blue) with a poem that I got off someones sight and asking them to light it when he gets to BS21. What do you all think?

Purplemom@ so glad you all had a wonderful time. Welcome back! A dear friend of mine suffered a tragedy and lost her husband a week ago so there is so much going on that this week passed way to quickly!!!!!! My son is on a high right now counting down and just keeps saying he cant wait to ship out! He said waiting is only holding him up from his goals...I have to be proud at his mature thinking but yet so sad.

Nice poem... I'm in the same boat as you and it seems to be shrinking. Feel like I'm drowning most of the time. I hope you know I appreciate your sharing and then I don't feel like I'm the only crazy one! Dec 14th is so close. Some days I wish it would go so slowly, and others wish it was tomorrow to get it over with! It will come either way! Hang in there. warm wishes, renick

Here is a poem that I used for his HS graduation....just modified a bit...

I held him in my arms on the day he was born, and dreamed about his future, and the things that he would learn. Now he stands before me, a boy almost a man. I find myself reluctant to let go of his hand..... Every yesterday is a memory of dreams, every tomorrow is a vision of hopes....Today I give my only son, the space to find his way, and celebrate his future as he starts his journey in the Navy today.

2 weeks from today I will have to deliver my JTW to the recruiter's office by 11:00 am.....I am not looking forward to that day...I wish I could find a pause or slow down button so I could make time stop flying by...I am going to miss that kid so much it's crazy...Finally finished the tree yesterday but cried all day long. We had a great Thanksgiving but it was also difficult because my grandfather passed away in May and we are all trying to deal with him not being here with us too. He was our rock....also he and my grandmother rasied my sister and I, so it's especially hard. We all just sat in the living room and looked at his empty chair today....I am an emotional wreck my husband says....I know I am crazy...but it's really hard to deal with so much emotion all at one time. Praying hard that the next 2 weeks go by really slow and that I can spend some quality time with my son before he leaves for BC.....

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. Like many of you, we have big family and try to all get together for Thanksgiving. This year not only is my daughter leaving for BC, but a cousin just left for BC for Airforce a few days earlier. I have tried to keep to as many traditions as possible. Today we put up the tree, and all my kids fought over who put which ornament up. Nice, huh? It's all bittersweet, but very important to me. Dec. 14 will be here before I know it, just not sure if I'm ready for it.

Having a rough day....my son and I are putting up the tree together which has been a tradition since he was a toddler. We have always made it a fun tradition to take it down as well......I keep thinking who will help me take it down this year. Can't stop crying

Hi Everyone,

Just came back from our cruise. We had a fabulous time. I had to stop myself from crying at times as I would think about my son leaving in a couple weeks (12/5). Got the itinerary from the recruiter for his flight and we are now down to the wire.
Hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving!!

Wow, Rosa ... what a great idea the Navy tree is! I may have to do that, so long as finances allow it! We won't be celebrating Christmas early at our house (my daughter leaves 12/8), but do plan on getting our tree this week and decorating it with her before she goes. Tomorrow we will be taking our Christmas pictures so that she can be a part of those as well ...

Her Christmas present (by request) is a new laptop after PIR (although I told her that she may need to hold off until the tax check comes --- LOL) ...

Hey Ladies~ Hope your Thanksgiving was a wonderful one. Just wanted to drop a note. I myself was in your shoes this time last year. Wow, what a year it has been. Lots of emotional ups and downs. My son, Ed was in BC over the Christmas Holiday last year. We chose to celebrate Christmas early. It was wonderful. My friends and family couldn't say "boo" to me with me breaking down. in tears. lol. Much better now. :))). Long story, short...to help me feel that Ed was still a part of our Christmas, I decorated a Navy tree for him. It is a white 3 ft tree. I used blue and gold balls, blue and gold ribbon..with a bit of red thrown in. Copied some Navy clip art (ships, emblem, sailor cap) to help with the decoration. I took a pic of it and sent it to him in a Christmas card. When I would look at the tree, it was like he was there (almost lol). He loved the pic and has it to this day. The great thing is, he will be home for Christmas this year and will be able to see his tree up close and personal. :). Have a wonderful day ladies. If any of you have any questions, please feel free to IM me. Take Care, Rosa.
