This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in Dec..I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of Dec of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Latest Activity: Oct 2, 2022

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of December (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have December ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in December, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Freaking out because I have been out of the country for a week...so glad to be HOME....but I lost an entire week. JTW cleaned out his dresser and bagged up clothes for Goodwill...and he also just informed me that tomorrow he is going to get his hair buzzed off so he can get used to it. OMG...the tears (now that I'm in my room unpacking) are falling...its getting so close....and I am on that emotional rollarcoaster...and very jet lagged....can I tell you how happy I am that I live in the USA......been to UK, France & Belguim all since Tuesday working..Glad to be home

Well because I'm allergic to penicillin, but according to Lynne you get an equally awful shot so I guess it really doesn't matter lol.

Grayson@why dont you have to get the shot?

JessicaB@my son runs every other day and has been for about 6 months and ran pereiodically way before the navyBUT my concern is the boots. I have tried to tell him to wear them but he does not think he needs it so I am afraid he may be one of the BLISTERED feet! Oh boy.

The peanut butter shot is actually gamma globulin...often prescribed as a prevention for hepatitis C...I only know this because I had to have it when I got my Master's degree...and was it painful...yea...and they gave it to me slowwwwwly and carefullly...I can't even imagine how painful it would be to give it fast...because it was no picnic...lol

My son is allergic to penicillin so he had to wear a big red sign around his neck so he wouldn't get it, however they had an equally awful substitute he said...lol

It's nice not to have to get a peanut butter :)

marine navy mom@ lol I can alomost literally hear it now with your two. My sons best friend is in the Marines and he was just hear on a 2 week leave and they did that back and forth the whole time. His mom and I would just look at each other and say "Brotherly Love" ! Loved the "only good marine is a sub-marine.. I may have to pass that one to my son to share with his best-friend for the next round lol lol You gotta love them!

We have now divided his cleaned out room and cloths into PREP POSSIBILITIES and PROBABLY NOT TILL AFTER PREP cloths.. That way I dont have to look for anything special when he has earned the civies and go crazy guessing which shirt he wants. It will all be packed in the bin, ready to be mailed.
He paid off his car today and contacted his cell phone provider and the ins company on his car. I refused to do the calling, with the hopes he realizes it will all be on him in a few weeks. :( :(

Exxie@I would give anything to see the look on thier face as that 'Peanut Butter" shot is injected! LOL

marine navy mom, You gave me a big giant smile!! The Prince will be the only current/active military person in our family, so I don't guess we'll hear a lot of that rivalry at my house, but it's still funny. ;D
Hey Lynne, my son will be Spec Ops also (Navy Diver) . . . have we already had this conversation? He's not due to arrive at GL until 12/15, so I suppose it's doubtful they'll be in the same group. Never know . . . it would be fun to see you at PIR!!
We talked last night about all the shots and so forth. This was while I was being taught to play DJ Hero. I was feeling sorry for Princey because he's having to sit home all the time (his closest friends are sliding into some habits he needs to avoid), so decided I should play with him. I'm a total loser . . . uncoordinated does not begin to describe me. Anyway, I thought it was funny that he's already been warned about the "gauntlet" of immunizations as well as the peanut butter shot. No big deal, mom.
Whatever.
I'm going to have to come up with better secret information from now on. LOLOL!!

Lynne@ ditto to tis comments....I dont want to see a robot after BC> lol.. What is the peanut butter shot for? Sounds pretty interesting :)

Marine-navymom@ looks like you have no choice in that matter and in reality the other Marine family and our family do all this in fun and know that in the end we are all one united front!

LYNNE - I'm glad to hear that you are seeing some of your "old" son returning. That is one of my fears ... my daughter is fun, easy-going, quirky and funny --- I have been a bit afraid that BC will take that from her. So it is good to know that even if it does, there is a chance that it will return post-BC ...

They say the peanut butter shot is the worst...it is thick and how can I say this nicely....it tends to make their tushy tender for a couple days...lol

My advice for PIR...stay in the middle lane in traffic because the right lane ends and you will make the trip in half the time...go really early because the place fills up fast...like leave your hotels at 6AM so you have shorter walk and good seats, bring binoculars, kleenex, and try to get some rest. The other thing I would say is be sure to go to your PIR Meet and Greet the night before...there is just nothing like that. We had 167 people there...it was just awesome to meet all the people I had taken this journey with. They are my Navy family.

My best advice for you though is to join your PIR group when that comes along. It will be your life preserver. No one else will understand what you are going through like they will and the seasoned moms like Arewen, Jessica and others who will help you through. I laugh because now I have all these 19 to 22 year old friends on facebook...lol...they are the girl friends, wives, fiancees and oh my gosh their sailors too. I guess they will keep me young. So get ready for the ride...along with the worry, the anxiety, the lonliness...there really is a whole lot of fun!!
