While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of December (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have December ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in December, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Bev, I am so sorry about your health. I am trying to stay strong for my son leaving same time. I have health issues as well, and I understand your decision to share your feelings here. It really does help. It is a great thing that you can still make your trip and I hope you feel wonderful during your time with your husband (a safari sounds wild!). The time you spend with your son before he ships will be so special even if it is only a day or two, he knows how much you love him, I'm sure. I will see you in Feb, hopefully and we can celebrate a great many things by then! Keep up the positive attitude!

hello everyone -- my son is an EOD diver candidate and is leaving on 15 December - my husband and I are leaving on a three week safari (planned over a year ago) on thanksgiving day and will return just in time to get him to the recruiters station on the 14th -- this is OK with me - I can deal with this - the part I am not being able to deal with is I was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer on 10/22 - they have removed the tumor and we are OK to do our trip, but when I return I will start my radiation, chemotherpy/herceptin treatment and this concerns with me PIR probably being in early Feb -- BUT, I will be there with bells on -- he has promised to leave me one of his Warrior Navy shirts to wear while I fight the rest of this battle -- he is a strong young man (23) and will do great --- we made a pack with one another to both be strong!! I have been reading all the posts and decided after the initial shock finally wore off that I would share with my fellow moms -- hugs to all!!

Thanks so much for your wit and humor. Yes, this site is a lifesaver to us all! Good to know any injuries will be handled so well if that should happen. I know we are all feeling the pre-bootcamp jitters. I'm trying to get my ducks in a row, but they keep straggling away! My son's recruiter said that he will get notice in November about the actual ship date for him to leave for GL (presently scheduled for 12/15 in AECF rate). He is waiting on word from his chain of command. I wonder if there is a schedule as to how far ahead they confirm the actual leave date. Any experience on the leave date changing from the original one? It's been 12/15 since May 5th.

haven't been able to get my photos up yet.. spent a great evening with my son and daughter and grandkids. it was a surprise younger brother was over / had dinner together.. he is so grown up and i know BC will mature him even more. the tears come as we go into the final month before BC , leaving the 13th with recruit for over nite stay and GL on morning of 14th.. Thanks for all the great info you guys have been giving me..he's happier then i've seem him in ages.. great decision for him.. plus fate.. grandfather (passed away) was Navy man, cousin,and uncle Navy and just found Navy wreath my husband bought couple years ago on veterans day supporting local services.. its Navy insignia...gotta go before tears start working today.

Hey all had a little insomnia...otherwise known as missing my sailor since returning from PIR this weekend and was lurking around various groups...anyway saw all your worried posts about medical issues...I lead my PIR group and so was privvy to many things not the least of which was some of the recruits being injured. Two of these involved falls when running involving broken bones...in both cases...the parents were notifed immediately upon the recruit hitting the emergency room...the Navy liaison stayed with the recruit and the parents were kept informed through the process. In fact, one mother actually went and saw her daughter while she was in the VA hospital the week prior to PIR. So don't worry about being contacted, your recruit signed papers during the sign-up process about who to contact in the case of an emergency...and they will contact you...but chances are minimal that will happen,..stay positive!! Good luck....

haahhahahaha you all are funny! We never cut the cord, only tuck it in! I know I will get through this but cant help but fill with emotion if I even start to think about the day he swears in and officially is on the way! Exciting to think we may all have a chance to meet each other in GL sometime in Feb.....weather is getting cold here finally and I can only imagine GL!! BRRRRRR>>>>>>>>>> Have a great week everyone..

"Call of Duty Black Ops". Lost my son and picked up 3 additional. He picked it up last night at 12:00 am..... JTW leaves and goes to MEPS 12/13/10.....a month from Saturday. I can't believe it......so much to do... I am getting the POA , and we completed his passport application. My husband keeps telling me to cut the cord....I just said to him, I will keep mine thank you, you can cut yours if you like. He will always be my first born child and I will always worry and want to protect him.(During BC that means pray alot) That's what mothers do. :)
