Latest Activity: Oct 2, 2022

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of December (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have December ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in December, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

JTW, our recruiter told us a long time ago not to do the POA because it has to be in a certain format for the Navy to even recognize it. Like you, we were told the Navy would take care of it. We DID open a Navy Federal Credit Union account for him and he'll bring the direct deposit info with him to BC--we were told that would save him time in lines, etc.
No one has EVER said anything to me about a passport. Am I being silly? Seems like they wouldn't need a passport if they're riding around in military transportation. If he needs a passport, I suppose we should have started that process a month ago!!
Best wishes for a speedy ACL recovery, by the way. That's a nasty, nasty injury . . . both my kids have had reconstructive surgery. In fact, The Prince went through all kinds of malarkey getting his waiver for it and passing the medical for Diver post. He had a terrific surgeon, though, so he's like the $6 Million Man in that knee!!

My son had a question about wisdom teeth waiver. He chose to have them pulled here about a month or so ago, his recruiter knew that he was doing this and is now saying that there might be a delay with his ship out date because he needs a waiver? I have read about waiver/delays for many other things but not this?

I ship out 12/14, I'll probably be the momma bear in the barracks LOL. Things I will miss the first year of marriage with my hubby: Christmas, New Years, 28th Birthday, and Valentines Day. Eh, at least I'll be in the same boat with my division (pun intended). We may not be present and you may not be able to get us presents, but its the thought that counts and we'll all be thinking of our loved ones.

Ok...so now with the 40 days....that makes me panic. I don't have anything done, and I was told the Navy will handle the POA for them if they have all the information. Thinking that maybe I will be pro active and get that and the medical POA before he leaves. No bank account, he has been using a pre paid Debit Card for years now, but seems like we might need to get that taken care of too. Whew....what a whirlwind.....still working on Christmas decorations...we are having Christmas before JTW leaves.....but today I pulled my ACL so I am working at a slower pace...

exxie, that was me about the 40 days. The countdown has begun and I'm feeling it. Got his direct deposit information ready for his savings account. Trying to plan a family get-together on my side since he will be with his dad for Thanksgiving.

Gosh,Purplemom, I haven't even thought about all that stuff. Now I have even more to do before he leaves. At least this keeps me busy.

JonsMom - In the multitude of stuff I have read something said that a Healthcare power of attorney was highly recommended. Once your child leaves he is an adult and belongs to the Navy. He is no longer yours to make decisions for even if heaven forbid a situation came up that it was necessary for someone else to make that type of decision for him. We went ahead and had the medical power of attorney, living will, general and special (bank required special) power of attorney and a will done in the last few weeks. We updated his passport and that should be back anytime now and we have received his itinerary for his flight from the recruiter. He went today and bought foot lockers to pack all his stuff in his room into. I THINK we have covered almost all the bases. Can't believe we are just over 30 days out.

We have gotten a power of attorney for our recruit, does anyone know if a healthcare power of attorney is recommended?

Somewhere, someone around here posted something that said "40 days!" Holy smokes, when did that happen?? I counted . . . it's true . . . there are only 40 days left before The Prince heads out and I'm officially feeling the anxiety. I don't know . . . it just seemed so far off. I've been gathering great info from all my N4M buddies, and we've been doing everything we've been told to do before he leaves, so there's really no need for me to be worried. Yet there's so much that is still not nailed down. Like, just this past weekend I figured out that the Diver thing isn't a done-deal just because he has a contract. He still has to get through a bunch of elimination rounds and so forth.
Whew!!
I think I'm just in premenstrual mom mode. It'll be fine.
But . . . 40 Days????
