Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of December (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have December ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in December, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

mamawalrus, I know what you mean. The Bobster has been to dinner with me and my gal friends, attended more family functions instead of hanging with his friends all the time...I mean he's still hanging with them though, lol. He's spending the next three weeks with his dad getting some PT training so that he'll be ready.

My son and I went and added my name to his bank account today. I think when Nov 8th hits,,,,,ughhhh i will realize it is almost time! We are doing DEP family picnic on Saturday and just want this to last forever.... My son took my husband to a concert last week and they had a great time....we are just trying to spend every moment with him making as many memories as possible... Sad thing.......we really should live like this every day and not just when a loved one is leaving. I am learning a lot through this.. who would of thought! Have a great week everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

With bootcamp coming up, it seemed like no other dates mattered . . . you guys (gals) got me thinking . . . my son leaves on 12/15 and his birthday is 1/27.
I guess we'll get to celebrate after PIR!!!

The best holiday and birthday gifts for new sailors is ways to miniaturize their lives. They will be living in very cramped quarters for much of the next four years. If they're into reading, a Kindle with a gift card for a couple dozen books. For music, a new iPod and an iTunes gift card. If they're into the internet, a laptop computer and games.
There are also "rack packs" which turn the curtain on their rack into additional storage space.

My son didn't ask for anything...as usual, mom just plans and does it her way..but I know him and what he likes..Josh just laughs at me and enjoys it. He will turn 20 on the 14th. We are having an Early Birthday/Christmas/Good Luck party and I have requested stamps, money, calling cards...but nothing big. We are going to get Josh a new laptop when he finishes BC, before he goes to A school for graduation/Christmas....I lost my dad/grandpa this year in May, so I am not excited about Christmas this year without him either...just my early Christmas with my son....

My son said the same thing Purplemom! He turns 21 on the 2nd and leaves on the 8th, plan to celebrate his b-day and combine it with a going away party, I was thinking of getting everyone who comes to give me their e-mails so when he gets his div/ship info those who wanted to could send him a letter (he stressed to me to make sure whatever comes in mail is in plan white envelope! ) He asked that Christmas go on as usual, he did not want anything now and would rather wait until that first trip home on leave to go shopping!

That is funny JTW's Mom. My son asked me specifically not change anything about the way we normally celebrate. We wants to put the tree up at the usual time and asked that we not celebrate Christmas or his birthday which is two weeks after Christmas before he leaves. He said he would rather not get presents before he leaves. He asked that instead of presents that I either take him shopping after PIR or get him gift cards he can use while in A school and after rather than purchasing anything now.

Got the Christmas Decorations down today.....Starting to put them up this week....it's going to be an early Christmas at our house..funny thing is I had to ask my my son to bring the things down from storage and he looked at me like I had lost my mind.....
