Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of December (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have December ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in December, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

I think mine is going through the same thing as far as the friends are concerned. The ppl that he hung with before he made this decision is very different from the ones he is surrounding himself with now. They support him instead of telling him how crazy he is and how hard BC will be. 47 days and counting,,,,,,then the hard part - letting him go.

The Prince has secured a Navy Diver rate. I'm told he'll do his BC and then stay in GL for an extra 5 (?) weeks to do "Diver Prep" and then off to his "A" School in Panama City for something like 14 weeks. He's figuring he'll be back in Florida in time for Spring Break! LOL!! I keep warning that there won't be a lot of time for bikini-watching, but I'm just the mom, y'know.
As for being more excited than the recruits, I'm ALL over that! I've been gathering info like mad from this site and the RTC site, etc. The Prince rolls his eyes at me very often, but I know he's cataloging everything I say because he gets mixed messages very often from the recruiters. Don't get me wrong, we have a FABULOUS bunch of recruiters, but sometimes you have to ask the question juuuuust so to get the right answer. On these sites, I feel like I get the straight skinny right away.
We haven't experienced the room clean-out yet. He's been weaning off his friends lately, though. Mostly they're directionless, just treading water, and they do not have his best interests at heart which has been a hard lesson for him. And with his sister moving to New York tomorrow morning, I think The Prince is feeling like he's about to have no one to play with until he leaves for BC. So, maybe the room clean-out is just around the corner. I will look forward to it!

We're counting the days now. Dec 14 will be here before we know it!!! I hate that he will be gone during Christmas & the New Year, but more than that - the COLD, brrrrrrr. He started purging his room and packing clothes to go to the Goodwill because he has lost so much weight. All of a sudden my Bobby the Slobby has begin to become organized :-) The change seems to have started!

I had to laugh when you said your son thinks you are more excitred then him.. My son feels the same.... I almost think I know more then him thanks to this site. He now comes and sits with me if he sees my on this site.. He loves all the info of everyone who has been there and can first hand tell us what to expect.

Just got the final word ... my daughter will officially ship December 8 (moved up from December 29). In more excitement, we are relocating for my husband's job ... from Michigan to Minnesota. My daughter's recruiters aren't too thrilled with her leaving, but I have promised them that she will keep on track and will be back to ship out. It's all a lot of changes at once --- emotions are running high in my house right now. But we are trusting God and knowing that He's got it all under control --- even when we don't ....

Arwen, I appreciate all the information that comes on this group. My son thinks I'm more excited than he is! I'm just very apprehensive and want us both to be as prepared as possible. I have bugged my poor brother to death (retired recruiter). The internet is my best friend at gather info too. Bobby is suppose to go to Air Crew after BC. He's pretty stoked about that!!!
