Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of December (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have December ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in December, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Your future Sailor will usually be notified at least 30 days before the new ship date since the future Sailor has to do the 30 day check and then the 7 day check before shipping.
My expectation is that December ship dates will be 12/01/2014 through 12/11/2014. Recruits don't ship on Fridays.
Nightwalker, Yep, you'll need to be prepared for her to leave sometime before the middle of the month.
We were told her ship date was Dec 22 but that she would go earlier in the month because the Navy doesn't ship then. So not sure of the exact date...just Dec!
Be aware and prepared that those shipping in December may have their ship dates moved up due to the Navy Recruiting Holiday Stand-down, which is usually about a week before Christmas to just after New Years. There are about 3 weeks in December and into the first week of January when the RTC does not process in new recruits. See http://www.navycs.com/blogs/2011/10/14/the-voelker-rule.
The default Privacy Setting on N4M is "Anyone." That means that ANYONE with access to the web has access to everything on your My Page. To change that, make change number 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile), While you are there, read the Page and see if there are other changes you need to make.
It's not too early to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., and to start discussing some of the things there with your future Sailor such as how to handle bad news and who will be put on the Access List....
My Son is Leaving for Bootcamp December 8th 2014 !
My daughter is leaving Dec. 16, 2014 for BC.
We just got back from PIR. What a wonderful experience! I highly recommend the Navy Lodge. It is a clean, basic place to stay. One great idea was that several people decorated the door of their hotel room. Very good value for the price. We upgraded our room to one which included a small kitchenette. It was on the 2nd floor & had a vaulted ceiling. There was also breakfast in the morning. They have it out at 5:30 am on Friday to accommodate those going to PIR. The sailors had to go back earlier than we expected because nearly all 979 (!!!) of them were flying out on Saturday. Our sailor had to be back by 8pm, which really means 7 pm because they have to walk a distance to get back to their ship. That being said, you will need to eat around 5:00 so they can get back. We ate at Lovell's owned by Capt. James Lovell of Apollo 13 fame. It was a very nice restaurant & your sailor will eat for free, as is the case most places. We opted to have Sarge's taxi service drive us to/from PIR & it was great to avoid the hassle of traffic/parking/directions. The cost was ~ $12 for 4 people each way (+ tip). Good seats were taken early & it took a LONG time to get into the hall for PIR (standing in 0 degree weather!). Another thing is to have your sailor order the pictures so you don't have to go to the NEX at the RTC to order them after PIR. (Can you imagine waiting in line with 900 families???) Our son ordered his ahead. They have them by PIR, so your sailor can get them from his ship compartment if they are already ordered & paid for. One thing we didn't know, which wasn't that important to us, since our sailor is attending A school an hour from our house, is that you can meet them at the airport (they leave the RTC in the very early hours of Saturday) to go to the airport. You can go with him to the gate or just hang out. If you aren't going to see your sailor for a while after PIR, I would definitely do this. You can give your sailor their cell phone at the airport & also their computer/tablet. If it's anything bigger than that, I'd mail it. They have plenty to carry with all their clothing in their duffel bag & their backpack. Best of luck to all SR's & families!
