Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Hi ladies - they used to make the "I'm here" call from a set of phone banks.  They no longer do that - the "I'm here" call comes from a cell phone - either theirs or a borrowed cell phone - which is why it's important for them to keep their cell phone charged on the way to BC.  If they don't have a cell, their cell died or they can't find one to borrow there is a chance you will NOT get the "I'm here" call.  Also another reason for you to answer any call you get because they may have borrowed a cell from someone from another state in which case you won't recognize the #.

The phone cards are for calls later on during boot camp and they have the opportunity to buy those cards at the NEX, which should make it easier for you if you can't find one before they leave.

Cell phones are not kept locked up at BC - they are sent home in their box (and often the battery is removed and put in their shoe in case you are looking for it!).

I never did find a phone card.  Finally bought one online and wrote all the numbers, pin, etc in his little note book with phone numbers and addresses.

I did give him 50.00. I know he had to buy dinner when they were stranded at the airport all day.I dont know if he bought food for the others with him. They gave him a voucher he used for breakfast. I should of thought to ask..But thanks for the cvs suggestion. I'll check there tomorrow. Does anyone happen to know when we recieve thier address?

Heather- it sure is an adjustment. We got one of the cards at CVS and if he has any money, they sell calling cards at NEX. I hope that helps.

Wow. It's only been 1 day hes actually in BC. But he left last sunday. It all seems like it's been so long. Ugggg. I still am trying to pull it all together. It's still rough I cried 2 times today. All these emotions, thoughts,. I know he is probably loving all of what he is going through hes weird like that. This is his Dream, but I am still a week. I know it will get better and it is a day by day thing. I am hoping he can keep his phone because I've been all over looking for a prepaid phone card. I dont think it exists anymore. I cant find one and when I ask people they look at me like I'm speaking a foreign language. And that's not even including when I say the words pay phone and they have no clue what that is. Anyone have a suggestion where to find one. I've checked Walmart, target, publix, winndixie. I am getting my 1st letter or book by the time I can send it (lol ) together to send to him, I would like to put that in the envelope n incase he cant use cell phone to call me.

NurseNancy: maybe he was able to keep his phone? I had heard that they lock them up when they arrive, but thought they mailed them home! I wouldn’t know, because I haven’t received my sons box! Someone signed for it, it was delivered by Fed Ex to the wrong house, despite having the correct address on it! I’m so upset about it, I’ve begun filing a claim with Fed Ex, but I assumed his phone was in it! Does anyone know if they keep their phones at RTC? I contacted the mailroom at RTC but they did not have a list of the contents.

My son arrived at boot camp Jan 23...his box arrived on Monday without his phone.   Not sure what happened to the phone!  The box comes Fed-Ex and does have to be signed for.  Waiting for the form letter and the next phone call!  Anxious to start making plans!

RhillCart4145 my son also left last Thursday and I got the call that night.  My box arrived yesterday.  Looking forward to the letter so I can write to him
