Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

They have a brand new Faces of Boot Camp video. You can access it on the main page of http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/.
REALLY? Cry? Which part? I figure, between Scout Camp, me, his dad, and his girlfriend, my son is "yell" proof! LOL! I watched some older utube's and verified with my son's GF who is already a SR, there are NO cold showers, or some of the older BC things that used to be done, but, yelling, extra situps, push ups, running, yep, those are all there! And they really only get 10 min to eat. Plenty for my bean pole!
I find I'm doing the last FOUR LOADS OF LAUNDRY from his room!!! PHEW! Yeah, I know, he's spoiled in that department! He's been good about packing up stuff he wants shipped to him at A/C school. But, don't be tempted to send too much, as when they finish their schools, when they go on ship, they have very veryvlittle room.
Thanks for sharing the link Aurie's Mom - it made me cry but was good to know what she will be going through.
My daughter surprised us by wanting to go to church with us today before she goes off to BC on Tuesday. Although I was unable to attend because I am still sick it meant a lot to me that it was the one thing she really wanted to do before leaving. I figured she would have too much to do just getting ready to leave to even thing about going to church. She grew up in the church but goes only once in a while. Her Dad took her and they had a good talk. So happy because her dad has not been too happy about her decision to go into the Navy.
Boot Camp video, nice for family to see, even Deppers! The link was forwarded from our recruiter.....I hadn't found this here, yet, maybe it is! 3 Days to go!
Thanks lemonelephant, I just now saw your reply - I have the flu and haven't felt like getting on the computer the past couple of days. Hoping I will feel well enough to go to MEPS Tuesday morning. At least I am starting to feel better now so that's encouraging.
My son just called, I missed the call but he did leave a message. He's been in BC since the 16th. He says he is still adjusting and his Div. is struggling a little to "click". He hurt his foot and will need to see the doctor on Monday, he says it is nothing serious. I hate that I missed his call! Anyone have a SR in the same Div that was able to make a call today?
Thanks for all the "welcomes". Tomorrow we say our goodbyes when the recruiter comes to pick him up. We are having a family dinner tonight. This is my youngest son leaving. I have an 8 year old daughter too and she's not very happy about her big brother leaving. She's extremely proud of her brothers for serving their country but it's rough on a little one! I'm delighted to have found a group of Navy moms to connect with as we become a part of the Navy family.
Lala*gma, Those arriving on a Monday or Tuesday as your SR did may be the first in a new TG or the last to fill a division from the previous week and be in a Push Division, which is what happened for your SR as CatMom509 indicated. The actual training time for all divisions in 6 weeks, so your SR will have plenty of time to learn everything he needs to learn to have PIR on time. BST for your SR will be the last for that TG, so your "I'm a Sailor!" call will be a day or 2 before PIR. I see you did find the 03/08/2013 PIR group; you may also want to join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the members) and Discussions in both groups.
You're welcome!! Glad to help~~ Now to book your hotel and travel arrangements!
**CatMom509**Thank you sooo much!!! This is all a bit overwhelming! I put the info you gave me in the search box and it took me right to the 03/08/13 PIR group and I was able to get signed up. I appreciate your help! =)
