Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

AND, I would call that recruiter and let them know no one gave them permission to go posting personal info in the internet...I  mean think about it....the admins on here do all they can to protect identities and locations so that was just dumb to me

I would get the post on FB removed....If his friends want to write, let them contact you for address!!!  My Son set up his own Facebook event page and made it private by invite only to only some of his friends....A. he didn't want his info out there for the world to see and B. he also didn't necessarily want everyone he is friends with to have the address...he personally chose 24 of his close friends to be able to get it from me....

Your SR's recruiter posted your SR's RTC address on your SR's FB? Wow, I would flip my LID if our recruiter did that!

The recruiter also called with his address and division information but I am waiting on the official form-letter just to be safe. The recruiter also let me know that he put his address on HIS facebook page for his friends to write him - I am hoping that is OK. I probably would not have done that personally but he posted it already.

Hippee, Horray - the things I have been reading about on this site for months are now happening to ME. My son left 1/14 and I received "the kid in the BOX" today. I couldn't open it fast enough and put my son's hoodie on so I could just be close to him. Ladies who son's left earlier this week - your box should be arriving soon. I just got it from Fed-Ex Delivery. Everything was packed in the box and I was so happy to see that he was able to keep his black wallet. It's a great day to be a Navy Momma :-)

Has anyone who's recruit left last week gotten the letter about graduation or any other news yet? I see the PIR group for 03/08/13 has been started. That's the group I am anticipating my husband will be in, but no official word yet.

lemonelephant- I took your advice and changed my user name.  I was getting confused with seeing posts from the other Stephanie too. :-)

I have to give a shout out to my husband.  He is awesome!  He went through my son's room with him last night, helped him sort everything out and pack.  I was in the dining room preparing for my son's Anchors Aweigh party this Saturday.  I could hear them saying, "Oh, I remember that or gosh I haven't seen that in forever or I've been looking for that".  I was crying just hearing those things, so I know I couldn't have handled going through his stuff.  We felt it was best for him to be a part of this process rather than us tackle it after he's gone.  We all need to wrap our head around the fact that he's leaving...most likely for good.  Last night I would yell into them, "the Navy moms say this and the Navy moms say that".  They both just shake their head at me.  I told them they should appreciate the fact that I'm trying to be as informed as possible.  Today my husband has texted me twice to say that he's lost it (crying)...what a guy!

I'm glad I have 10 more days with him, but I'm anxious to start counting Fridays because I miss him already...CRAZY.

That's what she said but I'm sure it depends on if they get in trouble or not and they always do...they give them liberties only to take them away.  It's the BC way.  We'll see and hope that she gets calls every Sunday. (fingers crossed).

Well my son shipped out 1/8 and we never got the "I'm here" call.   We did get the kid in a box-even though we had it set so that he didn't need to send anything home.   He sent the dorkiest things home! Just junk he found in the pockets that mean nothing.  Waiting on edge for the form letter, already have letters waiting to go in the mail!
