Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

We were at MEPS a loooong time, but that was down to our recruiter who couldn't give accurate information if his life depended on it LOL He told us to be there around 8-830. We  sat in the hallway until 12 when our daughter swore in. It was quite frustrating as the room they swore in at was very small and instead of only allowing say, 2 people per SR to watch they let anyone in and it was so crowed we couldn't even take pictures. I was so upset. Some families had upwards of 10 people per SR. VERY unfair on everyone else. We got to spend around 30 minutes with her afterwards before she had to board the bus to the airport. We were not allowed to go to the airport. We are in Houston.

hang in there lulu and Bridgette....you will have a kinda long morning at MEPS this morning to watch swearing in.  For us, we sat around at MEPS for almost 3 hours, but it was awesome to witness and take lots of pictures.  We were the only parents at our Son's, so I did get email addresses from the other recruits swearing in and emailed the photos to their families.  Just remember, 9 Fridays and there is a ton of support on this site.

Each one has a group of "veteran members" (members who have beeen through it themselves to asisst you through the BC experience) as well as all the other members with the same PIR date who have Recruits at RTC.

There will be a PAGES section for you to refer to on the PIR GROUPS. (Make sure you check out the one here on BC Moms as well! LOTS of great info!) PAGES is located under the MEMBERS Profile pictures in the middle column.

Division Discussions will be formed (by Brother Divisions) within the PIR GROUP in the DISCUSSION FORUM area. We like to wait until we get confirmation from RTC about the details of a TG and also to allow members to familiarize themselves with the PIR GROUP in general.

To see what an established PIR GROUP looks like just click on the oldest and the newest and you will see the difference.

Dropped my son off at MEPS today. We are sitting in the hotel waiting for morning so that we can watch him be sworn in, and with any luck, see him off at the airport tomorrow. I am SO proud of myself. I was the only one with tears in my eyes when we dropped him off at his hotel. I thought I would be a LOT more emotional, but I am really excited for him. We'll see how I am tomorrow!

MrsB - there are probably many of us who would not have chosen this path for our kids but since she is an adult and made the choice, I know that I need to respect her choice regardless of how I feel deep inside.  I will probably have lots of tears when she leaves to pursue her career in the Navy.  I will be saying lots of prayers for her as well.

My daughter arrived at RTc just before midnight on the Monday 7th. I got her box on Friday 11th. It came via FedEx and I had to sign for it. Still no form letter though.

KylesMom- I'm sure you will be getting it soon. I live in New York and mine came at 7 tonight. I hope for your sake your info the recruiter gave you is correct. I've read that sometimes the address you receive from your recruit is different than what a recruiter may have told you. Hopefully yours is right though!

CPfaff91...I don't even have "the box" yet....uuggghhhh  The info I got today was from the recruiter calling me...I am just hoping they were correct..and my SR left on the 8th and we only live 50 miles from boot camp

Thanks for your words of encouragement everyone. Today I received "the box" with all my husbands stuff. Pretty soon I should get an address right? I can't wait to start writing him. I'm pretty sure his PIR date is March 8th. But I'm only basing that on what everyone else is saying for those who have had loved ones leave the same day as mine did, January 9th. Has ànyone received anything other than the box yet?

;o)  I so appreciate how you have stepped up to help those who have come in at the same time as you and behind you on this awesome journey.  Thank you for that and for your kind words.
