Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

well I can say so far lemonelephant...you have been 110% correct on what you have said and advised, and I am sure many other's will join me in saying a huge thanks....and I am more than happy to continue learning and helping in anyways possible, so I will do my best to keep you as informed as I am (like I will ever know more or as much as you  haha)  YOU ROCK

Comment by lemonelephant on January 14, 2013 at 8:36pm

KylesMom, Thank you for your kind words.  I am happy to help.  I ask that you and others help me to stay current and let me know if you find something that is outdated or otherwise does not reflect the way things are now because things do change at the RTC. I did not have a recruit in a 900 division, so the info on that is based on info that others have shared with me and research I have done.

Comment by MyKidIsInNavy on January 14, 2013 at 8:25pm

Hey lemonelephant...can I please just take a moment to say a HUGE Thank You to you!!!  You are always there, answered all my dumb questions, never led me down false paths, and were theeeee MOST informative supportive person I will ever meet.  You amaze me with your knowledge, and I hope I can learn enough to pay it forward to so many other's who will walk in my shoes.  So THANKYOU and I am not yelling, I am trying to make sure you know how much your wisdom has guided me

Comment by lemonelephant on January 14, 2013 at 8:19pm

Some volunteer for a 900 division and some are voluntold to be in it. It is an honor to be accepted because they have a lot of responsibility.

and lemonelephant...I promise you my SR has NO musical backround, so if he is 917, he isn't band...not sure if I know what he is doing...I am doing cartwheels of pride for him

Comment by MyKidIsInNavy on January 14, 2013 at 8:14pm

Well Stephanie...if yours is division 917, then our SR's are together!!!  Yay now I can say I know someone in my son's division!!!

Comment by lemonelephant on January 14, 2013 at 8:13pm

I have that 917 should be Sticks/flags, so no, he may not have had any experience before,  He may have shown good marching skills while in P-days and the abilty to follow directions or the RDC just liked something about him .  One mom said her son was asked his name and how tall he was and he was chosen for sticks.

All of you with recruits in a 900 Division, check out the info in the Page, 800 and 900 Divisions, within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and be sure to join the group, 900's division sailors. It will help you to understand more about them.  There are 3 types of 900 Divisions and I indicate at the bottom which one each of the current division numbers is.

Comment by MyKidIsInNavy on January 14, 2013 at 8:00pm

congrats jeszar....I am not sure, but it was explained to me that those named to the flags/sticks (like yours and mine) are chosen to do so(per recruiter).  It is an honor and not a voluntary position...but that is what the recruiter told me.  I am sure we will learn the deal of what is true and false cause people on here are honest and much more informative then the recruiter's.  So I have a whole lot of learning to do....just when I thought I was in the know...lol

Glad to hear my son wasn't the only one who didn't tell me he was joining the Navy!  He told his dad and my mom and swore them to secrecy until after he'd joined!  But I've been very supportive after the intial first week or two of shock.  As moms, we just want our babies to be happy!
