Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Mini...I am so with you!!!!  I watched my son at MEPS yesterday get ready to board the bus for bootcamp....and here I sit, I haven't heard a word nor slept at all and my phone is like a precious piece of gold, but NO CALL.....so if that is nuts, then I want to join your party cause all this not knowing is driving me crazy, even though I am trying to stay positive and I know he is fine in my heart....I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO with you, and he got to GL around 1 yesterday...maybe earlier??  All I know is he boarded the bus from MEPS at 11:30am and it is a 50 mile trip from there.....I am just sad he never called us

Hi all. My daughter left yesterday for GL. I can't get her off my mind, even for 10 min. I know this will get easier. I'm really not worried about her, but for her. She wants this so bad and I worry she can't do it. Of course every pep talk I gave her was about how strong she is and how she can do anything she puts her mind to. I will always be encouraging. I keep my phone with me at all times. I think I fear the most getting a call that she has to come home for whatever reason. Is this normal?

Catmom, my son left last Thursday, I would have received the box on Tues if I would have been home to sign for it, and the form letter came yesterday.  I am in Cedar Rapids, IA, so we are much closer to GL than some.  As for his cell phone, it was just as someone had described, the cell phone was in one shoe and the cell phone battery was in the other shoe.  Someone had also posted don't be alarmed if their pants legs are rolled up in the box, its not a sign of anything bad, I think something about being fitted for boots?  Anyway, I giggled when I saw his pant legs rolled up.  Lots of great information and great moms here, it has made this experience so much better reading all of their advice.  Hugs to you!

Your son will be sworn in again the morning he leaves for GL at MEPS. I know that our recruiter said we can go down and watch this and take pictures also.

Hi, everyone.  I have a question....my son is supposed to go to the recruiter Tuesday, 1/15, then he will be taken to MEPS.  He went to MEPS back in the fall and was given his job and he says he was sworn in at that time.  Will he be sworn in again on 1/16 before he goes to GL?  I'm clueless and I can't reach his recruiter.  Thanks for the info!

Hi CatMom509, I received my box yesterday and his phone was in the box, he was able to take it so he could make the "I'm Here" call but that was it, he had to send it home. He left a week ago today and I received it yesterday, very sad but proud at the same time, it truly is a roller coaster ride with mixed emotions, but this site has helped alot, good luck to you, if you have any other questions let me (us) know...Nickie

I did not get the "I'm here" call.  I stayed up really late, but had to sleep some, I have to work today.  But I dozed with my phone, and nothing.  I am a little sad, but he may have opted not to call since we watched him get on the bus for the 50 mile bus trip to GL.  I am going on the no news is good news and going to think positive !!  Congrats to all who got the call!!
