Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Hi Sandria and nickie2013, did your sons' cell phones come back in The Box? My daughter was told that the Navy may be changing their policy where cell phones may be kept at Boot Camp. She wasn't able to tell me during her 10 second "I'm here. You'll receive a box and a letter in a few weeks" call. Such a let down after being able to talk to her at the airports on our cell phones' speakerphones. It was like she suddenly got real serious--time to get to business!! Getting this Boot Camp thing done!! I wanted to know for sure to deactivate her phone on military hold while it is being sent back to me. How long was it since your sons' leaving and your receiving The Box? Thanks for any help that either of you can give me!! God's blessings~~
Nickie2013, seems like each day gets a little easier. Apparently our box would have arrived yesterday but no one was home to sign for it, so they delivered it today, and the form letter arrived today, so looks like they are one day apart. Its so silly, but it was just nice seeing his handwriting on everything, I guess its just something tangible while we cant be with them. You're right, it helps so much to know other mothers sharing this journey, hugs to you!
Sandria and TaylorMom, I received the address from the recruiter and my son is also Ship 13 Division 101, just want to confirm once I receive the form letter, which I really hope comes in tomorrow. I did receive my BOX and was like you Sandria proud I did not cry but sad no notes were included. I am from SA and looking forward to checking another Friday off the calendar and meeting Mom that are sharing the same journey with me!!!
Taylormom - I am so excited several of us have kids together, I was writing my son and telling him about that and how cool it would be if they ended up getting to know each other too LOL Try to enjoy the rest of your cruise, rest assured that letter will be waiting when you get back. We are from Cedar Rapids, Iowa..so GL is only about 4 hours away..we are fortunate we can just drive to GL. Hugs to you!
Temartin61 were there a lot of SRs leaving from SA? My DTR leaves in a couple of weeks from S A and I am just curious if a lot of them leave together to go to BC
Taylormom, I do not not know what my sons ship and division are yet, no news from the recruiter. I did however get my "kid in the box" today.....bittersweet, full of stuff, but no note of any kind. I was proud that I did not cry....then my hubby brought the mail in and I got the form letter! He is in division 101, ship 13...Im so happy, PIR set for March 1. No note with the form letter, but at least I have his address now, happy day.
If you d not get an "I'm here!" call, you may get one within a week. It will be scripted and the RDC will be standing there as it is made, so some skip it figuring that you know where they are. Remember "No news is good news!"
If you have not done so yet, join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups as well as in the PIR group once it is created. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups, especially OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes To Your Profile) (and make the changes at the bottom if you need to), Arrival and What Happens at the RTC, Phone Cards and Phone Calls and Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones).
