Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

KylesMom = good reminder to the rest of us to make sure our SRs take their chargers to the hotel with them.  Hope you can get the phone charged enough so you can get that oh so important "I'm here" phone call.

Only my Son who is at the hotel and does MEPS and ships out today, called me and said he was on his phone all night and the battery is now flashing low...uugghhh  Now to hope when we go to MEPS for his swearing in, I can plug it in somewhere so he has a phone for the "I'm here" call tonight...:(

We drove our daughter Daina down to the MEPS in San Diego (only 2 hours away) and got to spend up to 9:30 pm with her before she had to go up to her room to get ready to go to sleep. My husband, myself,  and our 2 younger daughters were all pretty emotional.  I'm wondering if she is able to really get a good night's sleep this night before she ships out.  Her recruiter was so awesome letting us know exactly when to be at MEPS so no time was wasted with my daughter sitting inside while we were outside.  Some of those poor kids had to sit around for hours when they could have been with their families.  Our recruiter was in constant contact with the MEPS personnel and he called my daughter to meet her there.  Her processing took only about 15 minutes and she was back out with us going to the hotel!!  I miss Daina, but I know she must go through this to get to her future.  This was her path that was God-given to her!!  So sweet also was that she wrote personal letters to each of us!  No mess left.  Everything left the same in her room wihch she shares with her sister.  If we move, her sister will pack up anything in the closet and drawers.  So blessed about that as I will probably have to pack up the rest of the house!!

taylormom010313, watch for others with loved ones in Division 101 and 102.  They are brother divisions and train together and will have Battle Stations-21 together.  As soon as someone gets a form letter or the RTC posts the PIR date, the group will be created.

Sandra do you know what ship and div your son is in? My son had PIR march 1 also. Ship 13 div 101 is what his recruiter said

KylesMom....my son left quite a mess also.  I asked him to clean his room and his closet before he left, he kept procrastinating until it was too late.  I think it was too hard for him to deal with, unfortunately, I think it will take me the next 8 weeks also LOL  Of course, that is if I can spend some time in his room going through his things without crying.  I miss him terribly.....March 1st will not get here soon enough.

My son left today, and my one word of advice to all of you....please be sure you know what it is they want you to bring for them, if anything to PIR.  My son did put things together we will bring for him, but I just got to tell you....No lie, the mess he left is going to take me all 8 weeks to clean up and store for him.  Clothes, books, computer, paper's...you name it, it is all over the place and I am not kidding.  He took tonight to MEPS an old book to read before bed....and the amount of books he has left behind, I could open my own library.  Be sure to encourage them to help you to know what they want saved and what can go before they leave.   ugghhhhh

My son leaves PA on Jan. 23 for GL. The one great thing about that is that I get to go up with him the night before and stay to see him sworn in and then they load them up and bus them to the airport. I'm mentally counting down the days till he leaves, very bitter sweet for  me but very proud of him.

I dropped my Son off not to long ago...in the same boat as you teacher/mom !!!  Now starting to count Fridays.  My Son was already distancing himself from me for days if not weeks now, it is very normal.  I will say though, totally out of character, he gave me the biggest kiss and tightest hug, and that was awesome!!!  I will be bawling for sure seeing him being sworn in tomorrow morning, and to know it is the last time I will see him for a while....I am so freaking PROUD
