Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

My daughter leaves from Northern Indiana on the 8th - Indy MEPS then Great Lakes.  We are finishing last minute items - bought a St. Michael Medallion (Patron Saint of Sailors), POA,  IRS POA. As she will be gone during tax season, we will need to file her taxes. She hasn't decided if she wants us to sell her car, so we may need to take care of that.

It will be difficult not being able to receive a text or email from her. She's 20 - when they go off to college at least you can communicate in some fashion.

I don't know how my mom put me on an airplane when I was 15.  Lived in Europe as an exchange student for 13 months.  I was gone 6 months before I called home. No internet at the time and phone calls were very expensive.  She wrote at least once a week -

He will be leaving for GL on the 9th from Milwaukee....so it is a 50 mile bus ride for him...:)  The recruiter today said he will take him to Meps on the 8th and then he will be on the bus for GL by noon on the 9th

KylesMom, My son will also be leaving for GL on the 9th from New Jersey Where are you from? Maybe they will be together. Don't know how all that works. Brand new to this whole roller coaster ride.

You'll be fine with the group you are with, but it would be nice to contact others with the same ship date.  You may find that others are moved back a day as well because of the 7 day check.  With recruiting offices closed yesterday for the holiday, no one was able to get that, so they would have done it today as well and 2 + 7 = 9, so the future Sailors can't report to MEPS until the 9th, just putting that out there.

thankyou lemon....the recruiter we just left was super nice and very helpful and will follow my Son on his journey and be with him through the next 5 days and be there for me throughout!!!  Maybe it was meant to be this way?  Now to find other's with  loved ones going the same day....I was with another group, but now have to find the right group!!!

KylesMom, I'm glad it has worked out for him and gives you an extra day.

Update for my Son...we finally were able to make contact with the local recruiting office after his own recruiter told him to just go into an office anywhere and they would do his 1 week final face to face....Needless to say, we just now left there....things have changed just a tad though....he will be going to hotel on 8th and down to GL on the 9th.....so who else is due to GL on the 9th???? of Jan that is???

There are to be future Sailors arriving at the RTC on Wednesday and Thursday this week, so you should be able to contact a recruiter on Wednesday.
