Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

We have been calling, and with Holiday stand down until Jan 7th, no one is calling us back and he is to ship the 7th and never got his final face to face...so now what???
Get in contact with a recruiter in the city you are in and go from there. They will help him to know what he needs to do. You mentioned in another post that MEPS is in the city where you are, so it should be fine since he will be going to MEPS in the same city that he was going to go to before and he should be able to ship from his current city. When my now Sailor moved during DEP, he had to return to the city he started with when it was time to ship because the MEPS for that area was in a different city than where he moved to and the recruiter didn't put in the form to switch it. Have him call as early as possible.
I am worried about a whole lot more then weight right now. Mine leaves in a week, he had spoken to the Chief at DEP and was told to call in..and he has been calling, but not talking to anyone. He has left messages, no return calls. He is suppose to have his face to face the 2nd, but has no time or instructions for that....we are lost and he had told them he was moving in December to come home, they had told him they would be in touch and meet up with him here...but he hasn't heard a word from anyone
5 more days and getting nervous time just really goes too fast especially with holidays in between it all. Just worried about all this holiday eating but i want him to enjoy while he can i guess its hard to gain 8 pounds in a few days right im sure he will be ok with his weight 158 where 165 is his maximum weight of all things to worry about right?
Haven't been on much since we had company for Christmas. Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas. We enjoyed Christmas with our daughter but now RTC seems so much closer. My sr wasn't supposed to leave till March but like dadensmom there was an earlier opening and she took it. We have just one more month. Got her the black wallet filled with everything but pictures,ss card and id .
thanks for the info his body fat is at 20% it was 22% he seems to be eating more i guess from stress he needed mcdonalds and everyone wants to take him out to eat so it makes me worry but i guess its hard to gain 8 pounds in a week or less
relax...my Son is home for the holidays too and weighing himself everyday, which makes me giggle!! These "kids" are all worked up and I am sure the stress alone is going to do a number on their bodies. You might want to kinda watch what he is eating and drinking, and obviously encourage them exercising daily. I am finding myself trying to "curb" my opinions with mine since he is only here for a few more days....but he on his own is weighing in daily and telling me without me asking what the number is...:) I think the nervousness and worry will not having them gain much...but again, I would remove and or limit the access to too many sweets
Does anyone have concerns over weight for bootcamp my sons maximum weight is 165 for his height and he fluctuates 155-159 he has another week and im worried with holidays coming up and all recruiter weighed him with clothes on today at 158 should i be concerned
Anyone heading to BC the 7th?? or 8th??? My son has meps on the 7th...anyone??
