Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Everyone, be sure to check out the Discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC (clickable link).
You expressed my unsaid feelings exactly! It's going to be a little easier but harder for me as I watch you all go through January as my son leaves Jan 29.....So I will be very aware and appreciate every day.
We are getting closer everyone!!! With tomorrow being Dec 1st, and with Christmas and New Years...time is gonna fly and all the SR's will be leaving!!! I am excited for my Son, and also a lil sad. I am on the countdown now...38 days and then he will embark on the journey of his lifetime and fufill his desires. I am proud and jittery all at once.
Wow! What a service "calls for recruits.org" provides! Besides direct donations, they have a link to Amazon.com, so for anything bought on Amazon thru their website, causes a donation back to "calls for recruits". Thanks for the info...also, they really encourage the recruits to share these minutes to those who are not fortunate enough to have this resource. Wonderful! Thanks
You can get free calling cards (actually a phone number and PIN) at http://callsforrecruits.org/. Ronny and Anna provide those through that website if you email them at CallsforRecruits@gmail.com and ask for them. They will email you 8-12, but will send more if you need them. Each PIN that is provided is a onetime use number. You can use the form found on the site to write each PIN on for your recruit. Some people print out the form and then cut out the squares and write a PIN on each and staple them together. The recruit can then tear one off to use or give away. If you are able, please make a donation at the site to help with the cost of the cards.
If you choose to buy a regular calling card, Walgreens sometimes has them on sale at a reduced price and there are other places as well where you can obtain them. Be sure to activate the card before you send it so your Recruit does not have to waste valuable time and minutes doing that. It has been suggested that you purchase one that has at least 400 minutes on it. You can also make a copy of the card before mailing it and check every now and then to see how many minutes remain and add minutes since some are reloadable.
does anyone one know how i go about getting calling cards?
Thank you so much for any help you can give :)
My son is the youngest of my three he's (10 yrs younger than his brother), so I can totally relate. He's his siblings baby too! He also has a gentle spirit. I have also gotten the "BACK OFF MOM" messages! So, we are all in the similar situations....I am fortunate though, as his girlfriend just went thru Great Lakes, and he listens to her!!! Thankfully....she also keeps me informed...sigh....
sorry for the missing words in what I wrote below. I hate it when my mind works faster than my fingers do!
lemonelephant, I have a feeling you hit on something. He's been a recruiter for quite awhile and probably hasn't kept up with the changes. He has a female Sailor who finished BC fairly recently coming in to talk to Jazz. Apparently he doesn't get too many females applying in our area either lol.
ch#3, Jazz is actually my oldest granddaughter, but I've raised her since she was just a few months old and to her I am her mother and she is my daughter. Long story not fit for the internet lol. I'm probably more protective of her than any of the other four. My three oldest girls were adventurers and have lived all over the country and one even lived in England and Germany for a few years (not military related either). I didn't worry about them like I do her or my son. It may she has a gentler spirit about her and I'm afraid of her getting hurt or taken advantage of. However...she is definitely showing some spunk in joining the Navy. She initiated and she's been preparing since her senior year. She'll turn 20 at BC.
