Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Jazzys Mom, years ago it seems that they did get leave between BC and "A" School at other times of the year besides Christmas because recruiters do tell future Sailors that too often for it not to have been a practice sometime in the past.  It hasn't happened except at Christmas for more than 5 years though.  There are recruiters who don't bother to see how things have changed since they went to BC and there have been LOTS of changes in the 4 yars I've been following things.

Thanks everyone. It's possible he told Jazz she would have liberty and she's confused with the terms. It's on her list to get clarified. She's let me know 'she' will handle the questions. I guess that is her way of letting me know she's a big girl now. She said she appreciates all the questions I have asked her and it does help. I think this is code for "back off a bit mother" I can't help it...she's the last of five and even though she's been on her own for a few months now, this situation is bringing out the protector in me.

I know it will be whatever they say there. But he has had all four of his wisdom teeth in for some time now and I am hoping they will leave them.

taylormom010313, if a dentist at the RTC recommends removal of 1 or more wisdom teeth when your son has always been told he has plenty of room and should not have a problem, then he can "respectfully request a second opinion" and if the second dentist agrees that they don't need to come out, then he won't have them removed. The letter from the civilian dentist may or may not help. My son did that (without a letter) and still has all of his wisdom teeth and he has been in for more than 4 years. He said the down time would have been nice though.

KylesMom they may not take them out. I was told they do if they think it will cause a problem later. My son still has his and I called the dentist and he will not take them out. He said they are fine and there is no reason for them to come out. I am crossing my fingers the navy feels the same way. The dentist wrote a letter for him to take with him. We shall see.

Ok, here is something to make all of you giggle!!!  So my Son was just home for Thanksgiving, set to leave Jan 7th....so I was talking to him about all I have learned on here and shared stores with him etc....I told him about the wisdome tooth thing and said, boy I am glad your's are already done back when you wore braces...he quickly reminded me....it was his brother that had to have his pulled not him and he still has all 4....I was like...UUUGGGHHHH....then asked him if he wanted me to schedule an appt to try and get them out over Christmas since he is away in College...he said NOPE, I got it, I will deal with it, and not to worry!  I said okey dokey ....I blamed it on my old timer's kicking in and with my kids 9 years apart, guess I forgot stuff...dummy Mom

I agree with Carol (ck3) on this one...they may be on liberty (different from leave) after PIR, and while on liberty, they must remain within 50 miles of assigned base.  I was hoping myself to spring my Son free for the weekend of PIR, but we are literally 52 miles from GL, and he would be considered AWOL if he came home with us...:(  I would double check with someone higher in authority before making plans or counting on her getting to come home, although I am sure there are always some exceptions?!

@Aurie's Mom, He's the only Recruiter and covers a lot of territory in our area. She has a hard time catching him in his office between DEP meetings because of it. Supposedly he's been doing it for a few years. Either (1) most people go in blindly without asking him any indepth questions or (2) he's never encountered a SR's mother who thrives on research and asking questions lol.

He should have never told my daughter about navyformoms.com...I'll end up knowing more than him by the time this is all through (just joking...hopefully anyway)

I don't know in general, but my son's girl friend shipped out to A School within hours of graduation. I guess it depends upon the wait for her A school to start. Is there more than one recruiter in their office? Sounds like the recruiter may be new at this. Ours has been at it for 5 years and is very reliable.....
