Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

My son left for BC 1/9, my first set of letters came a few weeks in and included 5 for me, 1 for his dad and 1 for his grand parents... I was teary eyed for sure. They have slowed down a lot since that first few weeks though. He is still clearly enjoying it and learning a ton. He's happy so I'm happy... :-)

Got 3 personal letters today.  So excited. Just had a hard time reading them  because of the tears in my eyes.  Very emotional.  My son and I are very close.  It was good to read his 3rd letter and have him say that he is getting into the routine of it and that he knows it will be a good experience for him.  I will try reading them again later. I haven't got the form letter yet but I am going to send him a letter using his address because he sounds like he really wants letters to come.

If you receive a "real" letter without receiving The Form Letter, then write to your recruit using the address in the return address and be sure to ask for the names s/he intends to list on the Access List when the time comes or let him know the names of the four people s/he should list and also ask for the password for the vehicle/gate pass if you intend to drive onto the RTC for PIR. There is more info on that in Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.

If it has been at least 2 calendar weeks since your recruit arrived at the RTC and you do not have a form letter, then you can call the recruiter and get the address and mail letters to your recruit, but be sure to double-check the address against those at http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.html or Ship/Division--How it Works.

MittenMom, there is info in 800 and 900 Divisions for you.

The Form Letter arrives an average of ten days after the recruit's arrival at the RTC. Some will have it 7 days after arrival (a few earlier than that, but not many) and most will have it by 14 days after arrival. It will tell you your recruit's address and PIR date and other important information. Keep it in a safe place.

Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening and what to expect.

Our son left on 1/30 and we received his box a week ago but still no letter.  trying to wait patiently...

RabbitPaw, yes the return address looks like the one you wrote so I will assume that I can send a letter back now. Thanks!

Widge, My son said in the letter that his Petty Officer said that they can write a letter if they all did their cleaning duties quietly.  So I guess if is up to each Petty Officer to decide if they have earned the time to write.  I hope you receive a personal letter and or form letter soon.  It made such a huge difference in making me feel better about him being gone.

My son is in the Jan 30 group too, and I have received his box but no form letter yet. :(

I wonder if he's written me a personal letter?

@MittenMom As long as the return address looks something like this, you "should" be good. I know everyone says to wait for the form letter, but the return address on our form letter matched the address to mail to. If you have received another letter before the form letter, I would assume the form letter is lost somewhere, because I think they do that as one of the first things, before they can write personal letters.
