Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

My sons dates for leaving four times...for different reasons.  He left last week but about two weeks prior to that, they asked him if he wanted to leave early and he said NO WAY! We have been back and forth tooooo much!

WOW....from May to January ~ that was probably a "shocker" but at least you won't have to wait 5 months and stress about it. This site is so helpful and I am so excited that it was created! I cannot believe it is only 2 weeks away as well.....my emotions are up & down all day. I am so very proud of her and the journey she is about to start but I sure am going to miss her

I have a son leaving on Tues Jan 24th from Utah. It has come up on us fast because originally he wasn't supposed to leave until May, but the date got changed about six weeks ago and here we are, two weeks away. Crazy emotions.......

gonavymom......my son leaves on the 18th also.  I cried a month ago when we were leaving some relatives' house that we had traveled to for a last visit with an Uncle! I was a weeping mess for about an hour on the way home, couldn't get a grip.

I think it is those "last time" things that bring out the emotions, although they really aren't the "last", just not going to happen again for a long time.  Now that his leaving is closer I am keeping busy cleaning out the room and last minute preparations and getting more excited for him.  Not had a crying jag for a while. Actually think I am doing pretty well which probably means I'll be a total puddle by the weekend! I am very glad for this web site and all the comments of you other moms.  It really helps. Thank You.

My daughter leaves from Austin on the 23rd to San Antonio, stays over night and then leaves for the Great Lakes on the 24th. I am equally excited and sad but I am so proud of her!

Anyone have a loved one leaving 23 JAN?  These are going to be the longest, yet shortest, 2 weeks ever.  Had the Anchors Aweigh party on Saturday - huge success!  About 45 people stopped by throughout the night.  I think K was surprised at how many people are going to miss her (most were NOT relatives).  I have 3 days off this week and the five right before she leaves.  We are going to pack up her room this week (can't do it by myself later) and try to visit her grandparents next week.  Yes, trying to fill my time to keep the emotions under control.

Hi ladies....my son is also departing this week.  He gets sworn in on Thursday.  I plan on being there for the swearing in.  Our older son is also in the Navy and was at GL almost exactly 2 years ago, so we at least know what to expect....but it doesn't make it any easier.

Ericsmom, Good luck to you this week!!  It sounds like you had a great party.  I'm sure it is hard to believe that the time has come. My thoughts are with you. Thanks for the response! Cathie

My daughter gets picked up tomorrow for the hotel in Houston, sworn in on Wednesday. I only cried once at her going away party. She's fine, I asked her how she is doing now that it is here, her question is "they are going to give us time for makeup for pictures, right?" I laughed. She has been trying to get used to no make up or minimal. That was her concern, nothing else with boot camp. Here I am (mom) worried about blisters, homesick. At least I know she is strong. I even took days off, not sure how much crying I'm going to do, I even cry with some of you ladies with your comments.
