Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Same here. No tears.....except tears and goosebumps when I saw today's graduation pictures on NRTC...especially the one with the door opening up. I feel exactly the way Jackie feels.
Don't worry Jackie. I am not crying either! I'm just glad he has made this decision and now I don't have to worry about him taking care of himself. lol. Yes, I still miss him but it's in a good way.
Today is my SR's first full day at Great Lakes. I am so excited to actually here about the things that my son is doing. I also feel kinda out of sorts from the rest of you moms...I have not cried at all, I am so excited for him and his future, I can't! Yes, I will miss him (already do) but I know that this is a good thing and am just beaming with pride. I will get to see him. I will hear his adventures. I look forward to sharing in all of his "to comes"!
Eric left yesterday to Great Lakes. He stayed at a hotel on Wednesday night, they woke him up at 4:30 am to start the day. He went to MEPS and we all met him there for his "swearing in" ceremony. (I cried) We were able to hang out with him for a few hours before they bused him to the airport. We met him at the airport for about an hour before he had to go through security where we couldn't go with him. He called last night at 10:27 for exactly 23 seconds. It was a very scripted call but a call none the less. I was able to squeek out an "I love you" before we were disconnected. It was the best phone call I have ever received. The beginning of a long 9 weeks!!!
When my other son went to BC we ended up getting the form letter before the recruiter got the information for his address. There are also a few line on the bottom of the page where they can write in a note to you, so that's pretty nice. When I got it, my son had just learned how to properly write his name on all of his uniforms so the entire letter was written in perfect capital block lettering. lol. It was cute.
Hello all.... I have read somewhere on this board that the Recruiter sends the address to the parents within a few days after they leave for BC, is this true?
Hi lisarn3, my son also left yesterday, and I feel the same way; like my heart has been ripped out; I've cried so much at times that I can't breathe. My daughter moved out to start a new job this week also (so I've lost both kids this week and now have an empty house), and letting her go was so easy compared to watching my son get on that plane. This site has been a God-send; good luck to you and your daughter.
I just got home from putting my son on the plane to Great Lakes. Thanks to this site, I knew enough to ask for a pass so that I could get through security and stay with him at the gate. The coolest thing happened at the security line. Once they found out the boys were military, they let them get ahead of everyone in line, and one of the airport workers came up and thanked each one of them for their service. What a tearjerker! Good luck to all us moms; I am feeling good right now, but the tears come very easily.
Hi Debra11... I love your idea about the notes and I will do the same. I think that the more words of encouragement he recieves while at BC the better!! Thank you!
Yay! Looks like some of us may have guys in the same division. How exciting!! I haven't heard from mine even tho he left on Tuesday early AM from the hotel. I am waiting to hear whether he got there safely.
