For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

I think the letting go is the hardest thing to do. But we have no choice, I didn't think I would cry. We are a military family and I am so used to saying good byes all of the time. But nothing prepares you for the final good bye you say to your baby. It is a form of grieving, it too has stages. Just stand back and take a deep breath, everything will be okay. At least I hope so, all I know is I miss my baby girl. I raised her like this so it is my fault. LOL..... Goodluck to all of you and I am sure we will be meeting at PIR..... At least some of us.

Received the 20 second "I'm here Mom" call at 10pm last night...it sounded scripted and I could tell by his voice that he was exhausted and stressed...thought today would be better for me but I cried again this morning...it really does seem like you are grieving...so many years of taking care of and doing for them and then suddenly you have to let go..

Beth, that would be awesome for you to do that. My SR arrives today, I have to head to the MEPS for her to take her final oath and sign her final contract. I don't know how I am going to handle this, but it will be okay. I have to make sure she knows that I am proud of her. I don't want her to see my tears, then it will just upset her.

Hey everyone, this morning is rather tough!!! I have already broken down into tears a couple of times. I am hoping that by the time I reach MePS it will be all out. I don't want to upset her on her day. I just pray I can hold it back until I hit the car. Right now I am having a feeling of emptiness, a void in my heart which tends to take my breath away at times. But, I regain my composure when necessary. It comes in spurts, when I get to hear her voice for the first time I will be okay. Thanks for everything ladies. I am off to meps.

Good morning everyone. Today is the day - MEPS.
himmie....thanks for the words of encouragement. I have become dependent on this site to help me through. Right now I can only count down the days until graduation.
Hannahs Mom...my son propsed to his girlfriend on Christmas Eve. It was quite a ride of emotions for us too. I can relate to all of the ups and downs.
My son will be calling his fiance and she will make the call to myself and his father. I can't wait for the address so I can start sending the letters out.

Just got the "I'm here" call! He called from his cell phone...it was the 20-second script. He sounded good-not tired (yet!). Ok, I'm off to bed but just had to share this with my N4M friends. :)

Hannahs Mom....I can't give you any advise, but I can tell you that that feeling you have will get better as the weeks go by. You will find coming on N4M will be your savior. When I was feeling depressed or weepy I would get onto N4M and the other N4M's would be right there to lift my spirits. It is nice to have this website and to know that what you are feeling and going through others are too going through or have gone through it.

Well, I dropped Hannah back off at the hotel tonight. We had a great dinner and laughed til we were crying. I managed to hold back the tears tonight, but not sure how it will work out tomorrow. I miss her so much, miss not having her tv on in her room. I might just have to turn it on occasionally to feel her close by. She was my partner in crime, we did everything together!!!! I don't think I have ever experienced something so painful. I sure hope this empty spot in my heart fills quickly with patients for when I do get to see her. Any advice at this time would be great. I have to be at the MEPS in the morn around 9. So keep us in your prayers please. She is my baby and will always be my little girl. I can't wait to see the young lady she becomes.

I was going through exactly what all of you are going through 12/8/10. My SR left for bc and I felt like a hole was ripped out of my heart. EVERYTHING that you are feeling is VERY normal. You will be on a roller coaster ride for the next 8 weeks. Some days will be better than others. I started writing the day he left and that way when I got his address I was able to mail all of the letters at once. They will not get mail from home for about 3 weeks, but when they do it is like Christmas for them. You will be pulling hair waiting for the "I'm here call" to the "kid in a box". You will go crazy about getting an address for your SR to stalking the mailman for that first letter. You will than be obsessed with the phone every time it rings. It does get better moms. I am with a awesome group of N4M's on PIR 2/11/11. We have become a close group and have helped each other through this whole Navy experience.
I got the most valuable information from some veteran N4M's when I started on this wonderful website.
Don't include your SR name or picture into your screen name or profile picture. RDC's do visit N4M's and have told some of our SR that they don't like N4M's. They look at the specific groups and try to find the moms of the SR in their division. They can than use any info to make boot camp a not so pleasant time for them. We want all of our SR to breeze through bc.
