Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Junebug, my daughter in law called the recruiter today and they are suppose to be tracking him down and then call her back. So we're hoping we'll hear something today. I guess his regular recruiter got a promotion so for the last two weeks before he left, he had a new one, which doesn't help matters. Sure wish he would call one of us.

K-Town--Thank you. He just texted me and said the plane was there. So that is good news.

Haha--my son ate pizza at the airport also with his voucher!

K-Town--glad to know your son is in Chicago.

Mine is STILL waiting to fly out. Has been at the airport since noon. Flight should be leaving in the next 1/2 hour though. Please everyone say a prayer he gets out today. At least there were about 10 other kids from MEPS with him. I wish I would have sent more $$ than I did so he could have bought more food.

Just got two calls from my son...the first one was to tell me that he was at the hotel at MEPS and what time I was to be there in the am and he told me about his roommate - 20, from Fulton NY, Dan likes him..but Dan likes everyone   His roommates parents live in Arizona so they wont be there tomorrow  Dan also thanked me for making sure he was so prepared for this   His roommates parents werent on NavyforMoms so he didnt know a lot of what he could and couldnt bring as well as a lot of other things Ive been telling Dan    Dan always kidded me when I would say "well navyformoms says....."   but he was surely appreciating it today and so was his roommate   (Thank you)

The second message was one I asked for   I asked him to leave a message on my phone that I could listen to  while he was away    The message was so touching in that he thanked me for teaching him how to have courage

May you call have a peaceful evening

K-Town--sounds like the MEPS here today. Very crowded.  Son is still at the airport...flight has been delayed for 3 hours. Hopefully he will get out.

NavyMaMa23--that is odd. I thought they had to call home to give the I'm here-30 second speech. Maybe check with the recruiter?

My son left last Sunday and we still haven't heard anything from him. I thought we were suppose to get a short phone call from them once they got to GL's? Has anyone else had this experience? Getting sort of concerned. I know he's in good hands, but still, it would be nice to know he got there.

My daughter leaves in a week (25th) - trying to get all done before hand. Having her going away party this Saturday. Seemed like it took forever for this day to get here.

I can't tell you how good it is to hear from all of you ladies going through the same thing I am.  Knowing that you all are being strong and holding it together gives me hope for tonight and tomorrow.  The recruiter will be here to pick Hannah up at 4 today and then off to the hotel.  We will go have dinner with her tonight and then she will call us tomorrow to tell us what time they will swear her in.  My husband was able to get his supervisor to let him go long enough from the base to meet me at the MEPS to watch this incredible event.  I am so proud of her!!!  I know that God has awesome plans for her and that she will be a great asset to the Navy.  God Bless all of us and our incredible loved ones making this committment.

He is...gone.  Recruiter took him to MEPS this AM and we met him down there a bit later and watched the swearing in. He left about an hour after the swearing in for the airport. It was pretty funny because they were about to serve lunch at MEPS and he went to get a bite to eat. About 30 seconds later they called all the Navy recruits back and they went into a conf. room to get their tickets, food vouchers, etc. We all hugged him goodbye and left. :( He just texted me a littl while ago and his flight has been delayed for now. At least there were about 12 of them leaving his MEPS office so he will have some buddies to bond with while waiting.

Good luck to everyone that has a son/daughter leaving today or in the next few days/weeks.

Ladies   thank you  I was able to drop my son off at the recruiters off about an hour ago and was able to keep it together to tell him just how much I loved him and how proud I was of him while he cried    I didnt cry until he got out of the truck and went into the office    Now if only I can do the same at the swearing in  My husband and son finally made up and both of us will be at the swearing in tomorrow  I dont think I could of done it without everyone's support here!! Thank you
