Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Hi Everyone.
the day finally has arrived..my son left for boot camp this morning.. last night was very hard...thought I had prepared myself but when I hugged him goodbye I did NOT expect him to start crying... needless to say I lost it at that point, and still feel weepy today.. I am getting nervous about the first few days at boot camp..I have heard that the recruits are up for several days..is that true?
Hey everyone,
Well, today my daughter goes to the hotel an then to MEPS. We had dinner last night with her boyfriends family, where a bombshell was dropped for all of us. Yes, not only is she going to the military, she is getting married!!!! Can you believe it? Now I have two whammies!!! I think I am having a melt down here, not quite sure how to handle my emotions here, definitely a variety of them. We are baking cookies together right now, she leaves around 4 for the hotel. Then we are going to get her and take her for dinner. Her favorite is Wing Stop, so guess where we are going? Then tomorrow she will be at MEPS, they are supposed to call me when they are close to swearing them in, then I leave for the MEPS to watch that portion and take the last pics of her. I have been doing great up to this point. A feeling of emptiness right now, is appropriate? Kind of takes my breath away for a second or two. But, I am able to catch it in time and talk without crying, so I guess I am making progress. Thank you so much for the time you ladies take on here, if it wasn't for this group, I would go crazy I am sure. I will log on tomorrow after I see her for the last time. That is so hard to say!!!! Hugs and Smiles to EVERYONE!!! May the Lord bless and keep us and our children safely in the palm of his hands.
Well today we take our son to the recruiters office and then tonight drop him at the hotel. Tomorrow is MEPS and then waiting at the airport with him. He was told to bring his birth certificate along with his DL and SS card today. The past few days have been hectic - getting in the last visits with family before he heads out, getting everything together, etc. He has always hugged me before leaving the house and I've noticed those hugs are lasting a bit longer. Maybe it's me not wanting to let go, or him letting me know it's going to be ok.
Good luck to everyone! Time to prepare for today.
OK, thank you everyone...I'm not going to stress out (anymore than I am)! He is going out to dinner with his g/f and then home early. My husband and I were talking last night and most of our conversation went like this..."remember when..." Sweet memories of a young boy who is turning into a young man.
Good luck to all of us starting this journey tomorrow and a huge thank-you to those that have already begun it. We appreciate all the advice and cyber-hugs you have given us.
