Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Smichelle - Thank you for those tips!  My son leaves Wednesday so I will make sure I get as much stuffed in his wallet as possible.

K-town mom - I am jealous!  My son has to be at MEPS Tuesday night (actually the hotel) by 2000 hrs.  We can't see him until Wendesday morning when he has his final swearing in.  Enjoy your meal with him.

What an emotional rollercoaster this experience has been for me.  It's very overwhelming at times.  I've started card shopping already - but can only make it through a couple at a time before the tears start flowing!

Happy and Proud thoughts for everyone!

k-town~my son couldn't find his ss card a few days before he had to leave. We went through all the emotions and disappointed feelings that he might not get to go. It was very hard to come to terms with the fact that after waiting all those months, the wait might be even longer. Maybe if you have your son picture what it might be like if he didn't go, it would help him focus on why he should go?  After going through all those emotions, it seemed to help us when the actual time to leave did come. I hope this helps=)

Do they have to open an account at Navy Federal Credit Union? If so, we are out of luck doing it before he leaves with tomorrow being a holiday. We were hoping he could just use his bank here (Wells Fargo). Help!!!

Also had my son's party last night. It was great to see all his friends come over and hang out with him. What a great bunch of kids. Today we went out for brunch. Tomororw is it!!! Have to put stuff together for him  (bandaids, phone carrd, etc). His recruiter will pick him up Tuesday about 6am and we will go down there about 9am. He should be sworn in about 11am. We aren't going to the airport with him.

HUGS to you all! My son left on January 4th and it is just starting to get easier. The sadness is starting to be replaced with the excitement of planning PIR arrangements. It will be a tough week but you will make it. I'll be praying for each of you.

Thanks kbfx1.  I needed a hug tonight.  Trying to be upbeat, and feel like crying.  Will cry after he leaves on Tuesday.

We had his open house yesterday and it went very well!  Lots of fun.

We are getting the final things taken care of and starting to get butterflies, all of us I think.  It has dawned on me that this will be the last time he sleeps in HIS room and it will be his room.  From now on he will be sleeping here as a sailor on leave, with a life of his own.  It is all so bittersweet.

Angie and K-town mom, are you meeting your son at MEPS to see him sworn in?  We had to bring my son last Sunday to the recruiters and then we met him at MEPS on Monday.  While there, he asked us not to come to the airport because he felt it would be too hard for me and him as well.  Trust me I know what you both are going thru and I have found so much support on here.  Its been a week since he left and I feel so lost without him.  I have never cried so much as I have this week.  Hang in there girls!!!!
