Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Great advice for all of us Hannahs Mom. This experience is going to help us all mature ;-) and be ready to face the next phase of our lives.

K-Town mom, as far as the leaving by himself goes, that is probably not going to happen.  They have other recruits that are from other areas who will probably be leaving the same date as our kids.  They will most likely meet at the MEPS the morning of, so don't worry.  I know they will all meet up at the Chicago USO, hopefuly they will get some time to get to know each other and not be scared straight.  I have stressed to my daughter that when she gets there, don't take the yelling personally, they are paid to do it.  Just think of something funny and let them yell.  Besides it is them who will have the headache from yelling so much.  She just smiled!!!  I asked her if she was in the least bit nervous, she said NO, I am excited.  She has been raised in the military all of her life, so this is nothing new for her.  And the other ladies are correct, anything can happen during BC, but plan on the same date and we will all make plans together.  If they have to change, then we will do that at that time.  As far as sleeping and dreams, I haven't been sleeping as well as I usually do, but no dreams.  Since I have been to basic training (BC) myself, I know what she and the others are in for.  A bunch of head games and book info they need to know.  Just take a different approach at your child leaving, don't look at it as a sad day, think of it as a new chapter in your life as well as your childs.  Now you can do some of the things that you couldn't do while your child was at home, and you get to celebrate in your sons achievements as well.  So you get your cake and eat it too!!!  If your child has a weight problem, they need to get that weight off, they are really cracking down on that.  Tell him to drink only water and eat fresh fruits and vegetables.  If he has to, have him take some diuretics, it may just be water weight.  And tell him not to eat anything after 6 in the evening. It does help!!!  Okay, I think that is all for now, so you ladies have a great day and I will catch ya later.

@ Beth.  Once you receive your recruit's Ship/DIV number and their PIR date, the beautiful veteran moms on here will form another forum for everyone with your same PIR date.  You can create the meet and greet event from that group and invite everyone!  Just because a person leaves on the 19th doesn't necessarily mean that the others on that day will be in the same Ship/Div or will have the same PIR.  It depends on the others in their group and if they are cleared for medical. But, if your list is keeping you busy and occupied, keep going and you'll see how much it changes once you receive more information! Enjoy your recruit every second you can this week!

@ Angie - regarding weight.  They have to be at a certain BMI.  If they are over, then they are discharged at MEPS the morning of.  This happened to one of the girls my daughter was with. I know my daughter's recruiter measured her a week before and then again the day before.  We came in on a Sunday just to make sure.  She had gained some weight during her six months of waiting.  She ran twice a day that last week she was so nervous. So, if your son is over the weight limit, he needs to be doing everything he can this week to get that weight off.

Im finding it so hard to sleep through the night this week.   I keep waking up and worrying about one thing or the other   My son told me today at lunch (well actually yesterday since its 2:45 am now) that he is a few pounds overweight   Anyone know what happens if he goes to MEPS on Tuesday and is 4 lbs overweight   He's been working out like crazy

Junebug, I've got your name on my list, you will not be left out.

Are there any mom's with kids leaving on January 19th that are not K-town, Beth, Hannahs Mom, Junebug and Angie that would like to take part in our meet and greet at PIR?

Comment by Junebug (Ship 2 Div 918) on January 13, 2011 at 12:38am

I agree that planning for the meet and greet will keep us busy and occupied while our sons/daughters are hard at work at BC. :) Count me in!!!

Son called recruiter to ask him some ?'s and he wasn't in. ugh.....I'm sure he will talk to him tomorrow.

Hey Beth, K-Town, Oregonmom and Angie,

I think the meet and greet would be a fun thing to plan during graduation.  We should all try and stay at the same hotel, that way we can go to everything with one another.  We are having my daughters going away party this Friday night, a lot of people will be there.  She is so excited about going, and I can't help but be happy for her too.  Her happiness will be one thing that gets me through this.  I really like the comments everyone made and makes, it helps me to get through the night and the next day as well.  Keep the faith and stay strong, God will take care of us and our kids.

I just got the call. But he said they've mostly been waiting all day. I don't know if it's because of the weather or not. My son's been there since early this morning and it's 8:29 pm at bc - so they've been doing other things or waiting. You should get your call soon!
