Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Hi all, my name is Tami and my daughter leaves on the 18th also to be at GL on the 19th.  I dread the roller coaster ride ahead, but with the support of all of you I think I will get through this.  She is my baby of 4 and the last to leave home, so this is very difficult.  When are we supposed to put the blue tealight candles up?  This is the first time I have heard about it and my hubby is active duty Air Force and my son is a Marine, now my daughter will be a sailor.  Wow, what a patriotic family huh?  I now know what my mom felt the day she put me on the bus headed for basic training for the Air Force.  I guess it is something you don't experience until your baby flies the nest!!!

K-Town and Beth I found out my son also leaves on the 18th to be in GL on the 19th. I originally thought it was the 19th to be leaving.

Beth you Stay Strong, you too K-Town. We can get through this.

I am looking for Blue candles. What is the flag with the blue star?

My daughter leaves on Jan 31, anyone else have someone leaving that date?  Would love to hear from you.  Just writing this makes me cry....

to MichelleK - It  seems our son's arrived at BC at the same time.  Maybe they will be in the same division.  I am not sure when we find out what division they are in but will check back with you when I find out!

We met our son at MEPS yesterday morning. We were able to stay with him for quite a while. Then we watched him and other recruits swear in. After that we had about an hour with him and then he had to go into a ship out meeting and we went home. He texted me from the airport and also when he landed in Chicago.  We received his "I am here" call around 10:30 eastern time last night.  He sounded great!  He called from his cell phone for the last time.  When we told him we loved him, he said loudly "I love you too!"   I have already ordered the flag with the blue star, but not sure about the "blue" candles. Is there a special place to get the right blue candle?

Just found out yesterday that my daughter is leaving on Jan 31st instead of Feb

1st.  Can't believe how fast time is flying by.

Dang iPad keeps respelling my comments:) I wrote helter skelter and it put in helper smelter. Glory be. We had our going away 2 days before he left and gave out the candles and they were a huge hit. Mine is burning tonight.
Jessica B: I will get in touch with his recruiter. Have written already and waiting to mail. Now to get that dang PIR date figured out. Lol. Oh and the box.
