Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

We just dropped my son off at the recruiter station. He was so mature and told us, "two months will be over before you know it."  We did not cry in front of him. I really wanted to go to the swearing in but now know why our son did not want us to go. It made things a lot easier this morning. It also helped that his two closest friends stopped by for about 20 minutes before we left our house. It really helped take some of the stress away. I took the day off and I'm glad that I did because even though I haven't cried a lot, my stomach is in knots. This morning I tried to focus on the excitement of it more than the sadness. Good Luck to everyone leaving soon. As my son said- two months will be over before you know it;)

My son did not say anything about a birth cert. or shot records.  Hope we don't need them because he leaves home tomorrow and goes to GL on Wednesday.

Haven't heard anything about a shot record. I'll ask my son when he gets home. I thought that they all get the super shot whatever it is called anyway?

Did any recruiter say anything about their shot record? Mine said he didn't need the birth certificate but was to take his shot record. So far, I'm holding up good, not cried for the last few days. I just hope I can keep it up.

My son leaves tomorrow and my son's recruiter told him the same thing that MandRae said. I would put a prepaid phone card in his wallet, too. My son will actually leave for GL on Tuesday but goes to MEPS tomorrow. Since he will be staying overnight there he is bringing a small backsack (the small kind with drawstrings) containing undies, travel size toiletries, and a pair of socks. He is just gonna wear the same jeans that he is leaving in tomorrow and trash the clothes when he gets to GL. Oh, his recruiter also told them to make sure to wear a coat because they might have to stand in the cold a while when they get there. The coat is the only thing he will be sending home in the box. Good Luck to everyone with loved ones leaving this week.

@nicksmom, my husband will be leaving Tuesday.. good luck to him! (and you =]). His recruiter said to wear simple clothes and just bring his birth certificate and ss card, around $50 cash (esp if he's flying and has a layover or anything), and that's about it. I'm not sure it matters whether he brings more though, since anything he can't have will simply be mailed back. My husband is going with the 'bring next to nothing' plan. He's even keeping his wedding band home.

hope this helps, and if anyone who has already been through it knows anything different, please share! I'm going only by what my husband's recruiter says and we've got only a couple days to make any changes to the plan! =]

I know this is probably something my son should already know, but I'm gonna ask anyway.  Do they take a small duffle bag with them to boot camp?  Or is the wallet the only thing they can carry on the plane?  I guess his recruitor will tell him tomorrow, but I was just curious.  My son is ready to go and I cannot believe it's time.  He leaves tomorrow at 2pm with recruitor for Houston and sometime Tuesday he flys out for GL.

Good morning ladies   My son leaves for MEPS Jan 18th and then for bootcamp on the 19th   Where did these last 6 months go!   I can only hope that bootcamp goes as quickly  although from all that Ive read it drags on   Its been a very emotional two weeks here with Christmas and his 21st bday and new years   His girlfriend leaves for California on the 12th of Jan   Her brother is graduating from Marine BC and of course she wants to be there with him.

I know its going to be rough for Dan that last week without Kelly here  But he's a tough kid so we'll survive   Im hosting a anchors aweigh party next Saturday nite for family and friends

Thank you everyone for all you info about "weight" and MEPS.  Seems like my husband and I will have to hold our breaths until Wednesday to see if our son can get his body fat down to 22 %!  He doesn't seem worried - only has to loose 4 lbs in 3 to 4 days!  These will be the longest 4 days of our lives!

Happy New Years Eve everyone! We are spending a quiet night at home with our son. The party for us is tomorrow with the family and his close friends.  I think we are ready. The big freak out was good for us yesterday. We are much calmer around here now.
