Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

For the new N4M members ~ Do not forget to join your State group too! If you get involved in a group in your area, you will meet so many parents, sisters, and wives of Sailors in all phases and rates! You may even start a group to accomodate the N4M members in your area. The group I belong to meets for lunch once a month on a Saturday. Remember - You can attend when it is convenient for you. It is not like a bowling league - LOL : ) ~ kk

Melissa SHIP 14, DIV 100 ~ Sounds long, but in total I believe he is running 8.5 weeks until PIR right? They estimate 7.5 to 9 weeks. My son was 9.5 weeks before he was shipped out. Once they pass week 4 ~ they seem to handle things well and know the end is near. The roller coaster continues into "A" school. But once they ship out of GL RTC, life is sooooo much better : ) ~ kk

BitterSweetMomma~Ship7,Div103 - My son laughed at one of my card designs while in BC. He then did 100 jumping jacks. He said, "It was worth it Mom! Keep them coming." Be creative Mom - but ONLY on the inside of the envelope : ) ~ kk

seems to be many different groups for January...so I'll share in here too!

I wish I had known sooner about this site ...there are a lot of dicussions in other groups that can help us with boot camp and graduation. Here are 2 sites that I found that I thought I share with everyone.

http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/index.asp..

Gives details of what to expect for the Recruits.. Families and Graduation Schedules. It also has the recruit Trainee Guide which is 400+ pages. I saved it to the computer...my daughter has 1 week left before she leaves....

http://military-hotels.us/illinois/ns-great-lakes-il.html#on-base

Hotels near the Naval Base and on Base...i.e Navy Lodge

You really have to spend time in here to learn everything there is to learn...and even then... won't learn every thing.....there are discussions upon discussions....!

trloguem ~ The box and form letter go to who the SR designates. One box, and I believe one form letter. ~ kk
Comment by MamaBear kk on January 10, 2010 at 12:12pm
fyi...You can ask your SR, but the Navy teaches them how to address their envelopes with their method of printing and slashing zeros. This method follows them through BC; forms, log entries, classes, etc. Not following causes some form of activity, or lack thereof. ~ kk

BitterSweetMomma~Ship7,Div103 ` Your son already knows! You are officially informed by the form letter (approximately 2 weeks after he arrived). You can also watch the website - your division should pop up on Monday or Tuesday when they do the website updates.....

From a mom who's been there, one more thing to do - teach your sons and daughters how to address and envelope, and how may stamps it needs! My first letter from my son had 5 (that's FIVE) stamps on it. It was a lightweight, small envelope. He didn't know how many were needed and didn't want to take a chance on not having enough postage.

We forget that we're dealing with a generation that grew up on email -- free delivery and instant gratification.
