For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My son leaves for boot camp July 2
I'm hoping to find others that will have loved ones at boot camp with him.
I also have a 6 year old little girl that will be missing her big brother very much. Honestly, I feel sorry for my hubby having to deal with me and her.
We are wondering if our loved ones will get to see any fireworks or enjoy any type of July 4th celebrations on base.
Has anyone here gotten their POA taken care of? If so, how and where did you do it?

I honestly had forgotten about it - I had to go and read back, because I originally thought it was just to take care of bills and his banking account. I work in a law office, so I'm sure I'll be able to come up with something - or may even search online. There are so many different resources on N4M that I wouldn't be surprised if someone doesn't have one saved on here somewhere.

Hi Karen, my son will not be leaving until July 24th, but I think I saw somewhere that your son will be in the Nuke program? Mine will be as well. In fact, I am trying to get ahold of him now to make sure that his date is correct (it has changed a few times - been signed up for a year) because that seems to be only weeks apart for the same program. And most dates I've seen today appear to be on a Monday. Not sure why his is on a Tuesday. Still learning the ropes here. Are you aware of why kids going into the same program would have different BC start dates?
As for POA, I found something that suggested us to go to his bank to get a POA from them, they will typically only accept their (the specific bank's) POA to handle his account and bills while he is gone. They will not see a paycheck for 4-6 weeks. Then, also working in the legal field, I would recommend a separate generic POA for anything else that may come up. Hope that helps.

Rox, My son has been in DEP almost a year as well. He took his first Oath last July. All of this seemed soooo far off at that time. We were looking forward to his Senior year of high school. I never dreamed that him leaving for bootcamp would hit me like it has. His ship date has not changed though. He has gotten calls asking him if he would consider leaving earlier, but he has been in school so that has not been an option.
I have no idea as to why there as different ship dates. I do know that there maybe some down time between schools once they get to GC. My son's recruiter said that he can guarantee that there will not be any time for anyone to get in trouble during any down time between the schools.
