Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

(Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Connorsmom: Eventually your son will ask you to ask "the moms" for info! Happens all of the time! They KNOW that we know more than THEY do! :-)

All of you have given me so many important tips and ideas! There are times when I feel I know more about what my son will be going through than he does! He kind of laughed at me when I told him I had joined Navyfor Moms, until they brought it up at his last meeting with his recruiter and he acted like it was old news! Thanks for being so open and willing to share. It helps my
head and my heart!

kk: I'm speechless....WOW! You are literally a LIFESAVER! SO glad that it all worked out! Your husband needs to carry an epi pen (or two) with him at all times!
In fact, sounds like we ALL do!

Sounds like a good and sweet boy, Mary. Remind him that you will be writing, but he won't receive mail for the first 2 weeks. Some recruits feel "forgotten" by their families because they don't know this...then they are thrilled to get a bunch of letters all at once once mail starts getting to them. Believe me, event hose who think they are the "biggest baddest guys" still want to hear from mom during bc! :-) They learn to appreciate so much from home during this time. And they need our support and encouragement more than ever during the difficult circumstances at bc.

Mary, what do you want to bet that your son who says he won't write or call, writes or calls? Unless he will be calling/writing a gf? Now, that does happen. I hope if that's the case, the gf stays in touch with you.

Ginny, no. All of their medical should be done before they leave by MEPS. The recruiter will let you know if they need more info from your doctors. The recruits will have more medical done once they arrive at bc.

One more word on the POA's. I went to use mine at a brokerage firm where my son had his savings (all of us too). He needed his money transferred to him that day with the POA. Well, they said no, because the POA had to go through their Legal Dept and it would take about 2 weeks to clear. UGH! Had to find a alternate way which wasn't easy. So....if you know any financial institutions where you might need to use this POA, for your recruit you might want to submit it to them NOW for Legal clearance so if something comes up with your recruit, you are ready to go. Red tape....and MORE red tape! But my son has a new-found appreciation for all I went through to get all straight...and he thanked me profusely for it. What we moms will DO for our KIDS! :-)

Ginny, my feeling is that it certainly couldn't hurt to have one. Better to have things and not need them, right?

Since he currently is a "minor," then you have control. But since he will become "emancipated" while in bc, I think you are wise to have the POA's.

Also... Remember...no care packages at boot camp! (for his birthday!) In fact, some moms say don't even send cards....better to send a personal letter with birthday greetings. Don't want to draw attention to your recruit .... RDC's have a funny sense of humor sometimes! :-) Very plain envelopes, no stickers, no extra writing on the outside. But write often...they LOVE it! My son said letters and phone calls were "his connection to the outside world!"

Also, contact favorite teachers, coaches, neighbors, friends, etc. and ask that they please write to him. You may even want to supply addresssed stamped envelopes to some to make it easier for them (one you have the address from the form letter). My son had several teachers who wrote him and that meant so much to him. He had no idea I had asked them to...and he was so moved by this. The more support they can have during bc, the better. It is a hard time for our guys and girls....and they need lots of encouragement!

Also, everyone. A good idea is to get a POA (Power of Attorney) on your recruit before he/she leaves. I have had to use mine for my son 3 times already...all involved with his buying a car at his duty station and registering it down here (they can register in their home state). Some moms have had problems with their recruits while in bc if they need to get medical info from their drs in their hometown, and have no POA. Of course, the recruit cannot call the dr his/herself from bc. You may want to talk to your child's recruiter about this. I am sure glad I have the one on my son. He is too!

Hey, Ladies! I have a suggestion to post here. Just read it in another post on another group. Ask your recruits to jot a note or two on the inside of the FLAPS on the box that they will be putting their personal items in (that they arrive with at bc) to mail back to you. One recruit did this for her mom and it put a big smile on mom's face! They have very little time and no paper to put an actual note in there (unless they write it on the plane)....but they should have a pen since they have to address the box. You might just want to casually suggest this....and maybe some of them will do it! It sure made that mom's day!

Hey Iris, my daughter leaves on July 14th for BC as well. What is your daughters rating?
