Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Vincentsproud...-I sure hope that's right and they got to sleep last night, not that there's anything I can do about it. I'm really ok with everything otherwise and looking forward to what's ahead instead of being sad. How are you holding up?

Hello monkeymind,  That is what they told my son too when he went in 11/2 weeks ago.  He was up around 4:30am then flew that day to Chicago and wasn't supposed to sleep until the next night around 9-10.  I did talk to him Wednesday due to his dad being born out of US and he sounded really good. He did say the first week was rough but he was excited and doing well.  He did say the food was pretty good because I asked are you sleeping and eating?(Everyone's worry) and he said yes.  They are young and resourceful.  I keep reminding myself he has stayed up plenty times before of his own free will...:.)

Monkeymind, my son was also up at 4:00 AM on Wednesday to go to MEPS. We were able to text for quite awhile and he said they were told they would not sleep until 10:00 PM Thursday night. Unless they got some sleep on the plane. My son's flight was an hour and a half. It was his first time flying and said he spent the whole time looking out the window instead of resting. Hope he wasn't sorry about that. The "not knowing" is the worst!

Hopefully someone can answer this because it's bothering me...I know everyone says they keep them up for 48 hours when they arrive. Is this in addition to the 23 hours they've already been awake from MEPS? Perhaps they got naps on the bus or plane but in our case the flight was only 1 hour. My son woke at 4:30am Wednesday-did he get to sleep last night?

I'm sure he's too busy and tired to even think about smoking.

Well, I was surprised when I got home from work today to find 'the box' waiting on the front porch. I wasn't expecting it until Monday at the earliest. He didn't get to GL until 8:00pm this past Monday. I hope that a good sign that the letter will be close behind.

The box didn't include any surprises. I did find a receipt in his pocket where he bought his last pack of cigarettes on Sunday night. He had wanted to quit the week before leaving but he was trying to not eat a lot so he could make weight. Luckily he doesn't have too much trouble when he decides to quit.

Hi All - Have not been on the site in a while.  I am now 5 days away from dropping my second SR to the recruiters office.  I was cruising along thinking how I have this down and it's not so hard the second time around but this morning it started to sink in.  I was listening to the news about the Navy Ship arriving home from that history making "burial at sea" and I started to cry.  Reality hit me between the eyes (again).  What our children, spouses, brothers and sisters sign up to do is one of the most honorable things a person can do and we should not only be proud, we should be humbled and honored to have such amazing family members.  God Bless our families and our Country.  We will make it through this small sacrifice together so that our children, husbands and wives can keep our neighbors safe at night.
