Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Thanks Lisarobin!! The crying was only making my eyes swell and my head hurt. Now the only thing making me cry is having to clean is room..bedding is already in the wash. What does the call show up as on your caller ID so I know, I just mean does it say Navy or just a random phone number? Writing letters now thats a novelty for my son. lol He did ask me to pick him up stationary and envelopes, that was cool.

Hey tcmagic! Sounds like he got a good send off! Good for you for staying positive. Got my call early last nite. Looking forward now to the form letter so I can start mailing him letters.

Hi..My son left yesterday to MEPS, they're supposed to be leaving for Bootcamp today. I stayed strong, but it was hard. We had a lot of pseudo family at they Navy office to send him off. The had signs and flags. Our local police chief had officers there and they escorted the van out of city limits. I am doing better then I thought I would today. He had a big smile on his face when he left. He is starting a new chapter in his life and he is very excited. I am proud of him! He told me Mom cut the cord, he said for me to start living. He's so funny.  It has only been he and I for years. All our relatives, including his dad have passed, he does have a few cousins far away.  He's right. I'll stay strong, as I wait for the call and the box.  We do have to remember our children are just starting a new chapter, their not leaving us, they are off making us proud that we are their parents!

~lauren*nikosmom  Thanks for well wishes.  Our daughter married a wonderful young man who is in the Air Force.  The ceremony was beautiful.

~djrnova  I received the 15 second phone call at 11:00 pm last night also.  He told me that I'd be getting a letter in about three weeks.  They were going to Navy Night at a Chicago White Sox game first.  I hope that they all had a fun time time before Basic begins.

I got my call at 11:00 pm tonight, he sounded exhausted. Hope he is ok, He said he will call again in 3 weeks so now I wait.

Davesmom my attorney said yes he needed both poa and medical poa so if something happened to him where he couldn't make his wishes known(coma) you would need a medical one. That is very unlikely that it would happen but it will be there until you need to make a change like his getting married etc. If you are doing one though you might as well do both and get them done.

My son left Last night, He is going to Boot camp tonight. Just waiting for the phone call saying he made it, I'm so nerves. at least with the Dep's they have them prepared he has been working out with them for the last couple months.

does my son need to sign a general and medical power of attorney before he leaves?  I've looked for a definitive answer and haven't been able to find one.

Thanks, Lauren for your words.  My son leaves on 6/22.  He's been a DEPper since last June, and I'm definitely not ready even though it's been over a year. His last Sunday b4 he leaves is Father's Day and our Pastor wants to pray for him before the congregation. That's gonna be tough to get through. Also what you said about him withdrawing and wanting to spend so much time w/friends.  I'm finding that to be true.  THANKS to you veteran moms for your words of wisdom.  They really help.
