Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Thank you ckmom for your words of wisdom.  My SR has been gone for 2 1/2 weeks and we just received our first letters--better than Christmas!  If you want to read more, check out the Calendar above.  Here I'll just try to pass on advice - I was sending SASE with my letters.  He can't use anything but their envelopes so don't bother sending anything but stamps. He didn't need the bandaids I mailed him, but passed them out to some very thankful SRs. :)

My son left for BC last year June 15th.  I can relate to all you moms out there.  It brings tears to my eye's thinking about all that my son has done this last year.  We are very proud of him and all the sailors.

The main thing is start writing and write every day this is there only way to the outside world.  Keep your spirits high and don't let them know you are missing them.  They know that, keep writing positive notes and how proud everyone is for him or her.  Send pictures, my son said that helped a lot!  Keep your cell phone with you at all times.  You never know when they are going to call.  I even slept with mine and took it with to the bathroom, and I'm so glad I did!!:-)  My husband did the same.  We are dairy farmers so he kept his close by on the tractors and in the milk barn.  They call at no certain time of day or night.

8or 9 weeks of BC is hard, say the least. But when you get that phone call I'M A SAILOR and see them at PIR it was all worth the rollercoaster ride.  I have tears just thinking about it (AWSOME!!!)

My son went into the Navy right out of High School and now is on the USS Bataan.   Hang in there and NavyforMoms is the BEST.

God Bless You All

I was just doing that MidwestMom when I took a break to check in and see if I forgot anything.  Got him a new wallet and just put in band aids, phone card, stamps, note with our address and phone number (he never knows a single number-just hits speed dial on his cell), and a few dollars. I copied some of the great info on N4M and made up a little folder for him to read on the plane. Also packed snacks, trail mix, crackers, power bars in his backpack for the trip. What would they do without us. Making his favorite dinner tonight for him and the girlfriend. Not much time left now!

Also, make sure your recruit puts things IN their billfold and not their pocket.  Apparently it can be pretty chaotic (loud) and more than one parent has said they got the phone cards and stamps back in The Box.  Just go through their billfolds with them and remind them to leave their allowed items in the billfold...oh, and a few band aids (I forgot those!)

Oh, by the way, the password he gave me to use with online banking for his acct didn't work when I tried it today.  Make sure you check before your kid leaves that you have the right password.  Now I have to wait till he gets my letter and writes me back.

My son just took a deposit slip from the back of his checkbook so he'd have the routing number and his bank acct number.  Of course, I haven't received a letter yet, but I think that will work just fine.  I'll let you know as soon as I know if it doesn't work.  He's been in 2 weeks as of today.  His recruiter told him to take a blank check, but the deposit slips have the info without the risk of someone snagging a blank check.

Can anyone help me? I went to our local bank, where my son has his checking account, and they said that they no longer have or use the 1199A Direct Deposit sign-up form. His book of PQS material says he's to bring this form with him to RTC from the financial institution. I have also read somewhere they only needed a blank deposit slip with their bank routing number and their account number. Does anyone have any info or suggestions? He really wants to use his account here, so that we are able to access his accounts, if necessary. I asked my son to ask his recruiter, but I figured I'd probably get a quicker answer on here. :) Thanks!
