Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

I got the call last night, whats weird is that he had his cell phone however the call came from a PA number- why not his cell phone. I was texting with him at the airport so I know it was still working. Anyways yes it was brief with some yelling in the backround. Now I can start counting down the days.

Hi ladies! Glad you got your first call (it's scripted) if they have their cell phones they will call on them from bootcamp. Cell phones will be sent home in "the box". The box comes FedEx, so you'll have to sign for the box! My kid got there 6/7, got box 6/13 and formed letter 6/15. Please if their are any words of wisdom I have, CALLS (except that first one you got), LETTERS (formed with PIR date and personal), when you get the box, everything is random when you receive it, because one mom may post she got something and others for a whil. don't get anything and start panicking. Be patient with the process, don't get worried and frustrated, it will all come in time, trust me, just not on your time schedule. I have to constantly tell myself no news is good news!

Soccermom19...no I had read it would come from their phone. If not they would have to borrows someone else's. The recruit book had a list of things to get and when the direct deposit form had the wrong number on it...I was googling what to do and it led me to this site. Thank goodness! So much info. Now you start the wait. They say count down 9 Fridays and it will go fast! This Friday will be number 3!! It is hard to be cut off for so long.

ok.  Nice to know Black Belt Mom.  Everything I was told previously was to expect a call from the Chicago area and needed to pick up.  But I guess they use their own cell phones now.  Makes sense.  My son's call was brief.  But as soon as he said It's me.  I said I love you.  So I got my words in before he hung up.  :-)  Now we are Officially at BC!!!  Any mom's out there go in this week out of the Philadelphia airport?

Jennifer,  Were you surprised that it came from your recruit's own cell phone?

Soccermom19...that's is the same call I got before the phone goes into the box! My call was probably 15 seconds. Glad I got it. Now you wait for the box and then a few days later the form letter will come with his address.

So I see a few comments out that that their new recruit landed and was finally at BC.  My son texted me "Here" when he got to Chicago as per my request to let me know that he arrived safely.  He is a man of very few words.  Then at 11:40pm he called me from his cell phone said It was him (as if I wouldn't recognize the voice or the fact that he was calling from his phone) and I will write in 3 weeks..  And then hung up.  Is that the infamous call? I thought it would be from a Navy phone line and was surprised it came that late at night.  Now I realize that Chicago is an hour early in time than where I am but was not expecting then. Was expecting a few more words- not just It's me.  I will write in 3 weeks. Then click.  And especially did not expect it to come from his own phone.

Or was that just a call he made to me before he had to give up his cell phone?  Any one out there - can you tell me what your experience with the call is?  Will I get another but official call?

Jennifer...sorry no letter but maybe it's just a day off. I live in WI so the mail travels fast from Great Lakes. I told my son to help others in their weakness and he would receive on his. I believe this moment will cause him to be a better man. And yes...he did not listen to me either when I showed him hospital corners. The 13 is huge in my family.
