OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

We were hoping at MEPs she would have been able to leave in Nov. however that did not happen at first she was sad and now she is just like I wish it would get here so I can start my life already!! I do have another leaving in Sept. my son Kyle... its is gonna be a long year I fear!!!

We are throwing him an "Anchors Aweigh" party the weekend before he leaves. The theme of the party is the American flag. I'm picking up things as I see them to make it easier. I found great invitations on a web site called vistaprint.com. They have a postcard size invitation with a navy ship on it and a U.S. flag. I got them in 2 days ago, they are great. I cried when I saw them, makes everything seem so final. Does anybody else have any ideas??

Comment by Woo'sMom (Donna) on March 26, 2010 at 9:26pm: Newbie here . . . just getting acclimated to the site. I have lots to read and learn. Not in a terrible frenzy, YET! Have a daughter headed to BC June 8th; long story, but, finally. After 4 years of NJROTC and ending as Cadet Commander her senior year, we thought she was off to college with a Naval Scholarship. She surprised us, though, with a 3 year detour. Now, refocused, she has returned to what we all know is her love --and her destiny--the Navy. So... I've had much time to prepare for her departure. Still, I know it will sting a little and leave a huge hollow right smack dab in the middle of my heart. I've been reading many of the comments and am glad I joined, for I know a support system and commaradarie will be needed for this journey. Thank all you moms out there who have ripped a child from your flesh, and handed them over to the military. Bless you...and God keep and bless your sailor!

PIR will be up in the air for her. With her ROTC tenure, she may be "signed out" of basic before it ends, based on her superiors' recommendations. Does anyone know how this works? If signed out early, does she graduate with recruits at that time, or will she be able to return and graduate with the recruits she trained with???

We are moving her back home from Oregon (Art School was too boring--so it's the Navy!). We are proud, scared, excited...everything that you are all experiencing. Anyway, I'll find our more of the details when she's home. I think that God was preparing us for her leaving for the Navy with her 6 month move to Oregon (we are in Central Calif). I look forward to bonding with all of you during this process.

Comment by AlabamaNavyMom(ET2) on February 9, 2010 at 9:49am: Good morning everyone - My son leaves for bootcamp 22 Jun he is going to be a FC. Normally he is quite the procrastinator but he started working out the day after he signed up for DEP. Learning the information in the DEP book - that is a different story - he never did like to study. I just pointed out that I was concerned for him and the more he learned now the easier it will be at bootcamp. I told him I would not mention it again and I haven't. Since then he has come to me to help quiz him on the information. It is really hard to step back and let him handle it even though I know he can.
