While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Comment by nancyf on March 31, 2014 at 12:15pm: I am new here. My daughter will leave on June 3 to Chicago. I am so proud of her but, yet nervous, anxious. Its her first time her being away from me. She is so petite but strong. Do I worry to much??? Thanks for any advice out there

We also had a party for my son when he left for BC (PIR 1/31/14) and had a banner but I never even thought about getting everybody to sign it. Oh how I wish I had but now I can do that for my daughter when she leaves. One thing I did do was get index cards and have everybody write a note to him and included one or two in each letter (some had more because there were so many...and I wrote almost every day). That really helped him through BC because not everybody wrote but he got to hear from a lot of friends and family. Thank you for sharing!!!

My son has graduated but I wanted to let you know my son’s inspiration that helped him get through basic training. Before he left for Great Lakes we had a combination high school graduation and “Bon Voyage” party with a navy theme. My husband ordered a custom banner from ETSY that had an anchor on it and his name. During the party all of his friends used a permanent marker to sign the banner and added notes of congratulations and encouragement. The next day I took the banner to our “church family” soon the banner was almost completely covered. When my son called me from basic training before battle stations he asked if we could bring the banner with us. He said that when things got tough during training he would think of all the people that signed that banner and he knew everyone was so proud of him. We could not bring the banner into the graduation ceremony hall, but it was proudly hung on the hotel room door all weekend! Just thought I’d pass on the story. My son just graduated BC in December and my daughter swore in today and will be leaving for BC June 3rd (as of now anyway). The first go-round was pretty tough but I learned a LOT from this site and I can tell you, the information here will definitely make your journey so much better. When I left for my son's PIR in December, I didn't feel like a "lost little puppy" just thrown out to the wolves, I was totally prepared...I honestly don't know what I would have done without all the support and information I received. Now I'm ready for round #2 and ready to take this journey with all of you!

Comment by lemonelephant on December 14, 2013 at 12:58am: The default Privacy Setting on N4M is "Anyone." That means that ANYONE with access to the web has access to everything on your My Page. To change that, make change number 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile), While you are there, read the Page and see if there are other changes you need to make.

Comment by Pamela J on July 8, 2013 at 5:47pm: Yeah I FINALLY got my form letter. It was frustrating when some of you with 6/24 arrivals @ Great Lakes posted you got them Wed of last week and Friday of last week. Mine arrived today. He is Ship 12, DIV 313. How do I find that group to join?
