Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Just got the letter! She left on the 10th...PIR on 8/2 She is on Ship 14 DIV 285!!! Now looking forward to the phone call!
Yes he is definitely 8/2. He said today was really only 1-2 for them, I guess they were inP-hold for a few days waiting on a group to fill, so that set them back 4 training days, which is common-- but still they are going to be 8/2 PIR. What state is your son from?
taysproudmom- So do you have an 8/2 PIR date? I'm estimating then or the following week for Seth's.
I just got a call from my son!!!! I just happened to have my phone in my hand and it rang--I saw the 847 area code and it said Waukegan IL, so I answered it first ring! This is Taylor's 13th day roughly. He left June 3-- and is ship 12 div 279. For any other Oklahoma moms that had boys leave that day also, he said that most of them are all together-- which is making it much better for them-- they were all on the plane together, and so they have all made friends with each other. He said they are doing great-- food is great--all is good. He is homesick of course, but not in a bad way. I feel like a ton of weight has been lifted! As I am writing this actually, he just got to call me back for 2 more mins. He talked to me for 13 the first time- then called his girlfriend for 10, then had 3 more min left so he called me back! Moms- they are doing good! Be encouraged-- I know I sure am! Saturdays must be the calling day for many of them, so everyone keep your phones handy today!!!
I have to be on my cell phone a lot for work, so he's going to call his own phone when he gets the chance to call. That way he doesn't have to remember anyone's numbers and I won't take the chance of missing the call. I keep looking at it like it's going to ring any time and I know it will most likely not be for a few weeks. Have a few letters ready to send so can't hardly wait for the letter!
My son also left on Tuesday, June 11. We got the box today and live in NC! I have been told to be prepared for the next phone call as it is a difficult one for the SR and the moms. :/
We got the "I'm here" call Tuesday night and got the box before noon today! Guess that's a benefit to living in Illinois. Hope the letter comes pretty quick too.
Amanda left on Monday the 10th from San Diego and I just got the box! Wasn't expecting it this quick and was more emotional that I thought I'd be. I've been writing her one big letter with entries each night about the days events. Can't wait to get the letter with her address next
He's there! We took him to St. Louis Monday and spent the day, then dropped him off at his hotel before we went and checked into ours. Picked him up later for supper, then took him right back as he wanted to study and try to get plenty of rest. Met him at MEPS the next morning, watched his swear in, then as we were waiting to tell him goodbye, him and a group of guys rushed by and he motioned to us that he was leaving! We ran out to the elevators and just missed him, then got a text that he was on his way to the airport. So, we jumped in the car and away we went! Met up with him there and had lunch, then said our goodbyes. We didn't stick around to get passes and wait on the plane to take off because it was hard enough already. He texted when they boarded the plane, then called when it landed. We finally got the "i'm here" call later on and that was it. Now waiting on the box and form letter so we can send our letters and make our travel plans for PIR. Here we go with another countdown!
NavyMomINx2, I responded to IduGr8Hair's comment on the 6/12/13 thread because I didn't see it was here. Our son's flight was delayed as well. The storms shut down O'Hare for several hours and it was backed up for several more.
Our son arrived at Los Angeles MEPS on Wednesday at 04:00, he left for the airport at 13:00, arrived at O'Hare on Thursday (today) at 01:15, we got the "I'm here" call at 03:15 this morning.
I'm guessing that right about now (21:00CT) he's getting his first sleep since Tuesday night! 40 hours of MEPS, travel, and RTC processing. I hope he at least grabbed a couple hours of shuteye at the airport or on the flight.
