Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Got a call from my son saying that their connecting flight into O'Hare was delayed due to weather in Chicago.  Anyone else experiencing travel delays?

My mom in law just called me, we got the box!!, can't wait to get home from work. As I told my sister so funny that I get so exited for a box of dirty clothes, lol.

Here is the Video that shows the Valuable Sock. Start watching at about minute 6:00 until just after minute 7:00. You see it best around 6:50.

Yes, LOTS of stuff comes home in the Box that should not...trash even!

Man, they are being yelled at to get things done and do it right! So, it's a bit hectic.

Plus, Navy BC is the only basic training where you send almost all of your personal affects home or trash them...right down to your underwear! That comes home too...much to our dismay since they most likely have been worn for a couple of days! LOL

The things that you are allowed to keep must be able to fit into a Tube Sock...dubbed the "Valuable Sock" which is worn tucked into your belt over your Smurfs (the Royal Blue Navy Sweats you are issued and wear all through "P" Days (Processing Days). If it doesn't fit in the sock...it goes home.

Nicks Mom - I am pretty sure he will need at least his DL initially. Not trying to be contradictory Debi :-). But yes, once they do get military ID (The CAC - Common Access Card...which is actually a bit more than just ID) it is the one they use. I just have had some send it home and then request to have it sent back.

I asked him about his SS Card and he needed it because of the rating that he was enlisted for at the time (IT...he later switched to BU during A school), so I don't know if they all need their SS card. It's on their paperwork.

I would hold onto them like Debi said until you hear otherwise from your son...believe me if they want him to have it...they'll have him call home :-)

Comment by Debi on June 12, 2013 at 8:05am

NIcks Mom, While he's at BC he won't need the cards. He probably decided it was safer to have you keep them. Just bring them to PIR and give them back to him before he leaves for A school. I know my sailor needed his Drivers License at A school because he's being trained as an Equipment Operator..and they have to drive large things :)  And when you go to PIR he's not allowed to drive anyway..so the military ID will suffice for now.

Comment by Debi on June 12, 2013 at 8:02am

My son told us last night that his division is slated to PIR on August 9 (if they make it that far according to their RDCs ) The swearing in was amazing and it was nice to be able to spend some extra time with him before they marched them off to the bus and to RTC :)  Now to count down the Fridays!

I got my son's address as well today from his recruiter!   Division 281 and a graduation date of 8/2/13!

Thanks Beachmom, I didn't see my son there but it was still nice to see what he's doing.

I got my son's address today from his recruiter. I can't wait for letters from him though
