OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Comment by CMom on March 9, 2011 at 12:12am: For those of you that have loved ones leaving soon - be sure to mention what I posted about my son leaving a message in his pocket for me and how happy I was to get it!!! I had read a post on N4M (somewhere) that some other son had done that for his mom and how much it ment to her - We were eating dinner one night and my hubby asked what was new with "the moms" and I told him - about what I had read - I must admit I got a little teary when I told the story - My Son must have been listening (for once!!) LOL I think thats why he did it!?!?!

But, hey sometimes you just need to leave them a 'little hint'!! LOL

PC Mom they may have told you no need for calling card because they are allowed to keep their cells now and call from them, did your son have one with him? Anyway we just found this out last Wednesday, however the charge that is on their phone when they get there is all they have so the hubby will be sent with a phone card, if he didn't have a cell mailing him one will probably be just fine too = )

JennNY I cannot believe that was such an ordeal, it clearly states somewhere that girls need to stay on birthcontrol during BC if they are on it prior to shipping...so I'm not sure what the issue was all about, poor girl, glad she got to leave!!

I printed off pictures for H to take with him, various pics of us from our wedding day all the way up to last weekend, some of his momma and step dad and of course one of our K9 kiddos...he was happy that I did this for him. Hard to believe this time next week I will be without him, *sigh* I sure am glad I have you all!!!!

Comment by CMom on March 8, 2011 at 11:29pm: I got my boy in a box today - my hubby called when I got off work and said it was here - I was real emotional on the way home and he had left it for me to open!! I took a deep breath and opened it - went thru all his pockets and sure enough he wrote us a little note!! It said thank you for everything Super Mom - I will make you proud - don't worry about me I will be ok - then he apologized for everything in the past - and he thanked his father for being such a good dad!! We both cried!! I cry just thinking about it!! We went out to dinner and then a little shopping - We got a frame for his enlistment oath that he got the first time he signed and we will put that little note in with it!! So, be sure to check ALL pockets!

I updated the calendar but again - if I missed someone I am so sorry - we are a growing group!! LOL I am also adding the ship and division numbers next to the names - so, once you find out let me know (ex; 3/150 is ship 3 division 150) You might also look at the top of the calendar and I will post the PIR dates for the ship/divisions once they are official from the RTC site!!!

Oh I just wanted to add for those of you needing to know the PIR date to ask off of work - be sure to get plane tickets you can change as anything can happen to set your SR back a week or so they do have to pass battle-stations and I think that is their last week in bc. Also just FYI employers have to let you off for FMLA (if you need it) for military. www.dol.gov (department of labor)
"A final rule effective on January 16, 2009, updates the FMLA regulations to implement new military family leave entitlements enacted under the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2008." This may help?!?!

I have not seen him once waiver on his decision, or have a moment of regret or even doubt. He has made it so much easier to stay upbeat about this whole thing. I did cry when the recruiter came for him, saying good bye was tough, but not nearly as awful as I thought it would be. We're one day closer to graduation!! :)

Some scuttlebut said they have to be at the hotel 2 nights. she will find out tonight as it's her last DEP. We are going to be empty nest folks all at once. A week after she ships, our oldest and her husband AND MY GRANDSON move to WA. to begin a church plant in the Tacoma, Olympia area. I think they should leave the GS with his mammaw and poppop then they can make the 1-1/2 2hr drive to visit him, instead of us going to visit.:-} Still working on the best way to convince them this would be good. I know it will good for all of us BC, Church, Empty house but it doesn't make me feel any better.:-{

My daughter had gone on birth control in Sept. to help regulate periods, help w/the cramping, headaches.. I suggested she go on birthcontrol for convience sake, so she didn't have to deal with that during BC. Not a big deal, no medical issue, if she wasnt' leaving for BC, she woudln't be on it. She told her recruiter in Sept. that she went to the Dr. and was put on birth control. Well, when she went to MEPS this AM, they asked if anything changed.. yes, she went on birth control.. why? they asked.. she told them.. she'd get cramps, headache, helped to regulate. OH my goodness.. they started off on her like.. "oh, so you are incapacitated during your periods?" She said.. "no, I just feel crampy, etc.." Like any of us on our periods! ughhhhhhhhhhhh Well, they were telling her she might not ship out, it would take weeks, her recruiters got mad at her for "not telling them"... Ok, she DID tell them, they knew, she had to fill it out on the form at DEP meetings, AND she talked to him about it. Her recruiter said they did know about the birthcontrol, but thought it was for being sexual active... *which she isn't* ANYWAYS, long story short, they gave her a medical waiver and she got to leave today.. but she was one upset girl. I can't believe what an issue they made out of it, I mean how many girls are on birthcontrol to regulate, relieve symptoms, etc.. I just figured it would help her not have to deal with her period, while at birth control. SO, any girls out there, make sure that is settled BEFORE your last MEP!! :)

I thought it would never get here. I have booked a room at "Mayflower Seafood" I thought this would be best no cooking and no cleanup! The room holds 50 people I hope we have enough room! OMG Im starting to FREAK OUT!
