Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Thanks Ozzy and Maggie for making me/us remember that in all of this IS their committment to serve.   Sometimes we forget just how wonderful of a thing that is...maybe it gets lost in all the emotion.  We are all SO lucky to have wonderful sons and daughters that want to do something so special with their lives.

I keep thinking about PIR...   I am sure I will burst open with pride when I see my son in his hard earned uniform!!

Not a good day today, but wanted to come on and post anyway.  My son left this morning for MEP's.  We all cried, and hugged and cried and hugged.

HOWEVER>>> it's all going to be alright.  My son is so strong, I admire him so much.  He held my hands and looked me in the eyes and told me that this is what he was born to do, this is what he has been waiting to do, training to do...he told me he was excited and happy, and I need to remember and hold on to the fact that he WANTS to be in the Navy.  He wants to train with other men and women who think like him, who are passionate and dedicaded, like he is.

I feel better about that talk, I am holding on to the fact that he never once questioned what he was doing, he never waffled on his decision to join and serve our country.

What a son!!! He's the best!!!  Thanks for listening.

1 week left! I'm doing good today...no tears (yet). Party was Saturday, and although the weather didn't cooperate, we moved it to our home at the last minute and there was a wonderful turn out. Throughout the party family and friends recorded little video snippits (goodbyes, good lucks, etc.) He watched them that evening after everyone left. Many hugs, lots of advice, tons of photos! No tears...which was a blessing because I caught myself a few times with a lump in my throat whenever I'd see someone hugging him and wishing him the best. My older sister's best friend who has been part of our family since I was a little girl, made me this pillow. It was made of a Navy material and has two of my sons JROTC photos on them, one on each side. She told me that way I'd have him here, to hug whenever I needed one. It's precious, I love it, and it's going to be hard to let that pillow go! Much love and luck to all the mom's whose son's/daughter's are leaving this month!

Morining , I had to take a bug gulp and my stomach got weak reading these posts. 2 weeks left from today and as I mentioned this kind guy I call my son now is in attitude city only with me it seems.  Maybe just my perception.  I'll see and make mental note when I get home from work today.  Love and blessings to all of you wonderful people.

maggie: I also recommend this book. When I started reading it I couldn't put it down. I was up until 3am that morning. Well written and worth every penny.

valtameri,  my son received a Navy photo ID when he was sworn in last June.  He has been able to use it to get a few discounts here and there.
