This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in March...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of March of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Latest Activity: Jul 21, 2022

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Navymom95, not every recruit has to have wisdom teeth removed, but yes, some will.

The Navy only does dental work that is needed. The dentists at the RTC consider if there may be a problem in the future and remove one, two, three, or all four of the wisdom teeth if needed. If there is a question, they may indicate that the teeth are to be checked at "A" School and removed then if needed. They also may put off removal of wisdom teeth until later if there is dental work that needs to be taken care of first. Some may not need any wisdom teeth removed; my son still had his wisdom teeth when he was retired after 6 2/3 years of service. If it is determined that the recruit does need to have one or more wisdom teeth removed, this is scheduled at a time that will be the least disruptive to training and often several in the division have it done on the same day so they are recovering together. The recruits have 2 days SIQ and have someone who checks to see that the recruits are taking their pain meds and drinking plenty of water as directed. They then have at least one day of LLD and must be checked before returning to full training. We often hear that recruits have the wisdom teeth removed on Thursday or Friday, so they have the weekend to recover when no new training takes place. This is similar to the recovery time given in the civilian world. They are well taken care of and there have been recruits who were happy to have the time to rest and others who didn't have to have the teeth removed who wished that they had once they saw how their shipmates were treated while they had to clean the head or do other jobs in the compartment and continue with PT. Having any or all of the wisdom teeth removed does not normally change the recruit's PIR date.

If your recruit requires additional dental work, he will get that on board the USS Osborne. (See http://www.lovell.fhcc.va.gov/locations/USSOsborne.asp.)

Hi is it routine that they have to have their wisdom teeth pulled out?

Sailor Mom, so sorry to your son sounded scared. I know when we got that first call our son sounded so rote and commanding. "I have four things to say......" So quick and to the point; definitely not a 3 min call. He always spoke rather quietly, but it sounds like he learned quickly to speak up.
Laughingchipmunk, I've been wondering about my son's wisdom teeth too. He has plenty of room in his mouth also so I'm praying he can keep them. He had no cavities and the ortho said he has plenty of room for those wisdom teeth. We shall see. Isaiah 41:10 fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Esv)

Oh Sailor Mom, I'm sorry he sounded scared. They will learn quickly. I warned mine at MEPS that he better wipe that smile off his face ;) His dad was in the Navy and this waiting game and letter writing brings back many memories!
I've been wondering all day if my son had his wisdom teeth pulled. He has all four, with plenty of space. So strange not to know if he's lying in bed Ina hospital... Stay strong moms!

Tracie - i agree with Michael.  my son wasn't supposed to leave until May 3rd but he kept following up with his recruiter that he wanted to leave earlier.  He suddenly got a call last week and left within 6 days

Comment by Michael on March 28, 2016 at 12:13pm
Tracie things can change in a heartbeat so take it in stride and have your kid keep talking to his recruiter because my husbands ship out date was July 5 and he left March 6th. They called him 5 days before he left for meps then boot camp. So it can change just advise him to keep talking to his recruiter that he wants to go the same time his brother does. God does listen it may still happen :)
