Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

I am so glad to see I am not alone! My son leaves for boot on March 9th, and I just don't feel like myself. I cry every time I think about it, I find I don't care about anything else, just spending as much time as I can with him before he leaves, and finding any information that helps make this easier. I can't imagine, that in four weeks, my son will be gone...I don't know how to deal with this. I know all the positives, and I am sooo proud of him, and I support what he is doing, but my heart is absolutely breaking. I feel almost like everything else in the world is on hold, just trying to maintain my grip on sanity day to day. So glad you are all here.

My son has a Navy Diver contract, from what I understand, the Divers, SEALS, EOD, Spec. Op's, (maybe a few others) guys all have a different schedule than regular Fleet guys/girls.  They eat, sleep, exercise, train in a different area and separate from the rest.
Comment by nytesail on February 10, 2011 at 10:08am

Hope I am not redundent but when a recruit signs a SEAL contract is it so that they head off into a differnent form of BC?   A coworker had told me that was the case for her nephew.  With the realization of 3.22 BC around the corner my son voiced his concerns, one of the major ones he has now is that he is a lefty and said "what if I don't fold something the right way"?  I told him to be sure they won't let that  happen.

Ginnibean, once March comes to the Midwest things start to happen to Mother Earth here.  New beginnings in all things.  I have lived in WI all my life and it's amazing watching everything come back to life.

@Ginni-- yeah talk about Dallas' weird weather! But all in all the extra time is a great thing to have thats for sure.
Comment by Navy Wife Ginnibean on February 9, 2011 at 11:05pm

Down to 33 days here.  Between the crazy cold weather here in Dallas, and all the canceled classes and Navy meetings, H and I are getting to spend  A LOT of time together.  We have had lots of laughs and we are making wonderful memories, but then when we go to bed I start to feel so sad.  I think about soon he won't be here.  My best friend is leaving, who will I tell all my stories to, the ones only he would understand?  Sorry for such a blah post. I think the staying strong and being excited has expired now that we are in the 30-something days left..

hugs and love to you all!

And we had dinner with her the night before after she checked into the hotel, she had to be back by 11pm and we met her at MEPS the next morning.
Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on February 9, 2011 at 10:41pm
Our MEPS was in Charlotte NC and we were allowed to take pics during the swearing in ceremony but only in that room, no where else.

Hi Everyone, you're all wonderful; thank you for all of the great advice and for sharing.... it's true we can be so proud of our kids... now grown men and women ready for new and exciting adventures.

I've been so emotional lately, anyway, and ITSN_2BEyour words (from 21 hrs ago) really brought tears to my eyes... you wrote that so beautifully! Big hug to you too :)
