Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

as for POA - we were told it was a good idea to get a Medical one because God forbid something happens and he cant speak for himself he is at the mercy of the "government / Navy" and they decide what, when and how to treat. I realize he is an adult now but I still say "moms" know best!!  :o)  and until they pass Battle stations they are not Navy Sailors' and if the Navy sends them home (and they cant speak for themselves) it is another issue without medical POA. so.... We did both medical and general.

forevermom - if it was a legal, notarized, power of attorney - the bank should take it - I would ask your son to fax a stmt and call the bank - ask for the president of the bank and explain - if they still don't take it I would be looking for another bank!!

Good to know on the church thing, ITSN.  Will pass it on.

I am wondering..... we are meeting with my son's recruiter this week, for the first time.  Since last June, everything has been handle by my son, it was grow up time and we needed to step back and let him become a man with passion, direction and patience.  He has proven himself, plus some!

Anyway, I am staring a list of questions for the recruiter and I know one item is the "Power of Attorney." We have the form and will go to our/his bank and get that done.

What is everyone doing about the paycheck.  I do not want his paycheck to come to him, which lets him do what he wants, and he agrees.  I will assume there is nothing to spend money on in BC.  Does the Navy do direct deposit, can they split it between 2 banks, what are our options?  My son would like his paycheck to go into a savings, however, have some for spending money, once he can spend money on fun.

Does anyone have any suggestions, opinions, what works best for them.

I love my Navy For Mom Girls, by the way.  Thanks so much for the support, ugh, about 4 weeks left!!!!

Even if they aren't religious tell them to go.

No no no!! If you don't go to church on Sunday you get to pt and clean. It's not a day off at all. After church you can talk to a counselor if you want then you go back to your ship help clean then you get time to study and get ready for Monday. If there is time that's when you get to write letters. Not be worried if they can't write. And don't stop writing if you don't get letters. Letters are like gold to recruits. Hearing your name called at the end of a tough day makes it all better. So write everyday. If your recruits RDC is cool and makes it so they have time to write then they are lucky. I know of a lot of people who wrote when they are supposed to be sleeping. Or when they are getting ready for the day. Like I said. Tell him to go to church. It's a break. And a much needed one.

Question: B told me that his recuiter and my nephue told him he shouldn't go to church when in BC because that is the only time you get to read and write letters. Is this true do they have all day sunday free?? I want him to be able to do both......
