Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Welcome T.Mom - I just added you the the calendar! This site has so much information - don't get too overwhelmed - just remember to breath! We are all here to support each other. I don't know what I would have done if I didn't have this site to ask questions and just read about what everyone is going thru. It's nice to see "I" am not the only one going thru the emotional roller coaster. So, again Welcome!
What 'rate' will your SR be? (what job did they sign up for?)
My son has been swimming at our local YMCA since he became a DEPper. Didn't know it was FREE... lol. We did get a discount, though, because of the Navy.
I highly recommend having your son/daughter check out their local YMCA, for free or at a discount, and use the use the pool or gym.
I just learned something that might be helpful to the rest of our Depper's. I called out local YMCA to see if we could purchase a pass for 1 month for our son who is leaving for bc March 9. I was told that the YMCA has a contract with the Navy and all they have to do is show their ID card and they can use the facility for FREE!!!
My son has been running (yes, in his boots) and doing sit ups and push ups every day. He hasn't been swimming (I just discovered yesterday) because the person he was going with did not renew their membership. Just an FYI that might help all of our future sailors .
Hi everyone, I thought I would join this group and be around to help answer any questions that may come up now or after your recruit leaves for bootcamp. My daughter started talking about joining early April last year. She went to MEP's April 14th, physical 15th, signed 16th. left for bootcamp May 25th, Was in 900;s preforming division in the choir, PIR July 23rd (Grad and Go on a chartered flight) Got engaged 3 weeks into A-school, got married Sept 3rd (Husband left for bootcamp Sept 7th), graduated A-school late Sept, Went to VA for C-school & graduated C-school mid Dec, She is now an AO and at her first duty station in VA Beach. She moved into her first apartment last weekend, Her husband graduates A-school today and will join her in VA Next week. PHEW!!! So much can change in just a few short months. We have been through so much and have lots of experiences to share. If anyone has any questions at all please let me know, you can also leave a comment on my page if you like or add me as a friend.
Some advice for now and you may have already heard this but please tell your recruits that the mail is held for the first couple of weeks and not to worry you are writing letters from the moment they leave. Write every day if at all possible. They live for mail call. If you think it will help have them call your cell and leave you a message letting you know they will be okay and then you can listen to it anytime you need to hear their voice. My daughter did this and it really helped me. And tell them to tell all the deppers they see at the recruiter to tell their families about Navy for Moms. You will be surprised at how many families have never even heard of it. :)
is it march yet, I am so happy to hear that things seem to be improving. Hopefully he is coming to the realization that he has a wonderful family(sounds like it). Do you believe how close March is, remember when we couldn't figure out how we were going to survive the summer let alone this long wait. My count is 45 today!
Update on my B. Reminder he leaves March 29th, he has been liveing at a friends house sence before thanksgiveing. He did not want to live by the house rules. Well anyway things have gotten a little better. He has called his father a 2times letting him know that he is thinking about him and appreciates him. (I did encurage this, and he did it YAY) He promised his brother and sisters that he would come to church last sunday but did not show AM or PM. But then we spent time with him tues night and he spent the day with us yesterday and went to church last night and spent the night. He just left and said he would come to church on sunday but would not come sunday night because of the super bowl (oh well I will take what I can get!) Praying that we continue to get to spend time with him and he makes smart choices when he is away. He has a new friend that is leaveing two weeks before him and they have been working out and hanging out together. He seems like a nice kid. Things are going better. Hope everyone else is doing well! (sorry so long!)
Ozzy, this a pretty cool. I may do one for each of my other kids and not just my sailor. :) Thanks for posting it.
foreverMom, I would try to hide some pictures somewhere before he leaves, like maybe in his wallet or in a small bible. He will want them, I'm sure. I have learned from experience and from other parents, that they think they don't want things like pictures or letters before they go and by the time they are there a week or so, that's what gets them through every day. My son told me not to write to him every day and even jokingly said he wouldn't miss me before he left. By his first phone call, he was almost in tears and said "Mom, I love you and you were right, I do really miss you and please write to me as much as you want. Actually write me all the time, I want lots of letters".
