Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Crazyd925 -- Our sons will be at boot camp together. My son leaves on the 13th too. Maybe we will see each other at PIR. The emotions are crazy right now. Helped him clean his room tonight. Tomorrow we do his taxes and finish up some other paperwork. He also needs to get his driver's license renewed before he leave as it expires while he is at boot camp. Can you say procrastinate!
@FireTeamLeaderWife - Thanks for all the great information. Things are going well. Son is sometimes a bit moody, but that's to be expected. Going away party plans are shaping up well. Invitations are out and it will be a BBQ with family and friends. Menu is pretty well handled. Now just hoping the weather cooperates and it will be great! We are planning on going up to Jacksonville to watch him swear in. Hope everyone is having a great day!
My son leaves March 13 -bittersweet week here. I'm excited for him to follow his dreams but our home is going to be so lonely with him gone. We're already making plans to go to his graduation!
Hello!
FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW here! I'm ging to go ahead and introduce myself now...just so you can "see my face" LOL!
My Sailor PIR’d on 05/26/2011.
I am a "veteran" mom on here and I will check in here once and awhile to see if I can answer any questions and lend some support.
My main groups are the current PIR groups. PIR is Pass-in-Review...the final ceremony that family and friends of the NEW SAILORS attend. I also help in starting each weeks new PIR groups. So I look forward to getting to know you!
Just ask...if I don't know...I'll try to find out...and I am sure there will be other seasoned veteran moms on to help answer any questions that you have. No stupid questions here!
Ask away!
FTLW
P.S. JessicaB-Sailor Mom's posts are invaluable! I have reposted them for you preceding this post (she has been busy lately...so I thought I would help her out!)Please read, save to a word doc, etc! She helped me so much when I went through this...along with all the other veteran moms!
Tell your Recruit to eat before getting on the bus to RTC. Sleep on the plane, they keep them awake and busy for 48 hours or so once they arrive.
They get issued meal vouchers at the airport and the USO usually has subs/sandwiches/snacks..EAT and REST!!!!
Yes, our recruits can take cell phones to boot camp and take the charger as well, they are shipped back in the "kid box" the night they arrive. That phone will come back in two pieces because it is always safer to remove the battery from any electronic device before mailing it - so look for them in strange places, like their shoes or a pocket. Don't just throw their clothes into the hamper or washing machine!!
Females: you need to get your hair cut BEFORE you leave for boot camp. It cannot be touching your collar. You cannot wear barrettes, scrunhies, etc. So must be out of your face. They may cut it again at boot camp but at least it won't be a huge difference. Braids are allowed (the tight, close to your head kind)but must stop at the nape of the neck.
Males: Cut all facial hair. It won't make any difference about your hair cut-it'll all be shaved off.
Another thing for DEPers....if you wear contacts, you need to take a pair of glasses or just wear your glasses. Often you aren't allowed to keep contacts and therefore you are blind till you get your BCG's....so better just go ahead and wear your glasses and if you don't have any...better get some.
Just to add something to Jessica's post below:
Here is a chart that has some of the things to memorize that Jessica mentioned:
