Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Hello Tiffany, I guess I would go by what your son wants you to do. Ours did not want us to go to the swearing in (and I hadn't even considered the airport); I guess because he did not want to be the only one to have family there. (For some reason, the people in our area don't tend to go.)

It's here.really here...Tomorrow they pick up my boy and he gets to meet everyone he will be shipping out with. The one good thing is we booked a room at the hotel he will be staying at and got clearance to take him to dinner. He has a 10 pm curfew and we can not leave Staten island. I can not wait to watch him swear in Monday morning...Question.Did anyone go to the airport after swearing in?  We can go but I am not sure if its the best for him? I am SO proud!!!!

My husband leaves for Basic in 16 days. I am getting so anxious nervous to be apart for so long. Does anyone know about how often they will get a chance to write at basic? Also how long after he starts Basic do we get an actual Graduation date? I am looking forward to getting the whole process started and am going to stay very positive and enjoy these last two weeks to the fullest!

It's 2 A.M. Friday morning. I watched him swear in yesterday morning.  I took his picture.  I smiled and told him how proud I was.  I got the treasured 15 second phone call.  I didn't cry... until now.  Rats.

We just got our "I'm here" call.  Thank goodness!! It's only 8:30pm in California, hoping I can sleep tonight.

Hi Nancy-Joshie'smom, The swearing in is something I think every parent should see.  It's amazing to watch our son, who is 18, hold up his right hand and take on these responsibilities as a man.

I don't think I was strong, I think I was dehydrated!  I've been crying all week, especially last Sunday helping him pack up his room.

I watched my son being sworn in this morning, made it through with only teary eyes; watched my son being driven off to the airport, felt empty but didn't cry.  Got in the car and bawled my eyes out going home.

If you read my post earlier this week, my son was asked to leave early - on Monday of this week.  When we got to the recruiter's office Monday things changed and they didn't need him early so we were back to his original ship date of today, March 1st.  I've been on a roller coaster of emotions this week and really thought I lose it today.  I went in to work this afternoon which I think helped keep my mind off things.

Now here I sit in an empty house waiting for a phone call tonight telling me he's safe (although I found out his flight number and I've been tracking it since it left California). I think the quiet of our house is what's going to be hardest for me.

Here we go on this journey, I'm ready but I miss him already!!

Tiffany and flgirltwo -- Thank you for the information.  I just sent an e-mail off to the recruiter so I am hopeful he will let me know what is going on.  I had a little anxiety last night as the time is approaching too fast.  I started making a list of all the things he needs to pack for me before he leaves for camp so that I can have it ready when he flies off to A School.  The one thing I have on my side is that I only live 1.5 hours from Great Lakes.  What would we do without this site for information.  Good luck to the two of you and your boys!

Hey!  Time is marching on!  My son has 22 days until boot camp.  He's studying hard, working out hard, and using the knowledge that he is going away to play on my heart strings!  I really don't mind, but I've given more back rubs, cooked more "favorite" meals than I have his whole lifetime!  haha!  I'm not complaining because he's always willing to give me a hug.  Whoops - there I go - tearing up!  Oh well!  @Dani - I was told we should go to the 7 day meeting with recruiter and 72 hour meeting also.

Comment by Tiffany (NAS LEMOORE) on February 29, 2012 at 7:28am

Dani...I am not sure..His recruiter sat down with us 24 hrs after he Dep in and we were told that prior to 48 hrs of him leaving they will sit down with us again. Kyle goes to a weekly meeting on Thursdays and his official one the first Thursday of every month. We got a call yesterday and were told 5 pm Thursday They will be here. I will let you know what is said. I will also ask if is standard....
